4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast. Not many issues.

RMA process was streamlined and efficient.

Cons: Bought 2 of these. 1 failed after 3 years.

Warranty is listed as 5 years on Newegg, but shows up on WD's site as 4 years for me. Maybe WD starts counting from the date that Newegg buys the HDs from WD.

Other Thoughts: WD replaced the failed drive with the somewhat newer WD1500HLHX model.

5 out of 5 eggsWestern Digital Raptor

Pros: Its Western Digital, so its reliable, its good, and it will keep being so until the death of your computer which will likely not be because of this drive. It also runs fast, really fast.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWarranty Rocks

Pros: Fast in raid and lots of storage, cheaper than SSD :)

One died about 3 weeks before 5 year warranty and the other 2 years before the warranty expired. But WD replaced both at no charge and no questions asked.

Very pleased with shipping and came back before I noticed they were really gone....

Now I have 2 more with 5 more years of warranty :)

Cons: One died about 3 weeks before 5 year warranty and the other 2 years before the warranty expired. But WD replaced bo

5 out of 5 eggsHot

Pros: I got this not knowing how much heat it generates. I threw it into my gaming computer and it fried within minutes, but after pointing a simple case fan at it, the temp stabilized and I never had to worry about it.

Cons: Hot...

Other Thoughts: Make sure it has some sort of cooling system, whether it is a fan or liquid cooling.

4 out of 5 eggsQuality HDD

Pros: Reliable and fast enough for most people's needs. Inexpensive (compared to SSD)

Cons: Expensive compared to other HDD. 5.9 on the windows performance scale. The cost does not out weigh speed difference.

Other Thoughts: The HDD shamefully wields the lowest of my scores according to windows' performance, all others range 7.4-7.6. It is holding my system back. I had bought it with the intention of creating a RAID0. Two of these is expensive and with SSD costs dropping, I am going to switch to one SSD and forget RAID.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible

Pros: I have been using this drive for many many years now, and while it lacks in space, it makes up for it with long life and incredible speed.

Cons: INCREDIBLY loud. And at night it clicks rapidly and grinds...
Though that could just be it dying.

Other Thoughts: I typically take up a lot of hard drive space, so I use the VelociRaptor as my boot drive and as storage for my programs, and then store all my other files on a SeaGate Barracuda 1.5TB

4 out of 5 eggsGreat until it died

Pros: Faster than any standard desktop drive running at 7200rpm. Low latency, quick access times.

Cons: Died after 2 years and 4 months of daily use. Replaced under warranty, but still. I expected it to last longer.

Other Thoughts: Had 2 of these setup in RAID 0 for more speed. Not even close to SSD speeds, but much faster than 7200rpm drives.
