5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Hard Drive

Pros: Fast for a platter drive, never gave any trouble. Bought 2 for RAID 0

Cons: non really

Other Thoughts: I have now shelved these two drive and they will be used as spare back-ups. I've now gone to SSD for the main drive.

5 out of 5 eggsTop.Quality

Pros: Why would anyone buy an older, more expensive, 3Gb/s small-capacity VelociRaptor? To expand a RAID array with others of the identical model. These drives rock.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggs3 years and going strong

Pros: I've had this running as my boot drive in a PC I built about three years ago. I have had zero issues with the drive -- It is not a SSD but for mechanical I would recommend it to anyone. I've done a lot of gaming with it in addition to heavy day-to-day use. Very reliable. Buy it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great quality, not a lot of noise for a 10,000 rpm drive. Love Western Digital.

4 out of 5 eggsNot meant for enterprise workloads

Pros: Much faster than any other regular SATA drive

Cons: Can't keep up with SSD and SAS

Other Thoughts: These are not enterprise drives. as waynem mentioned, they're seeing problems when used in an enterprise market. The issue is because of the limited electronics on these drives..timeouts occur, and depending on your controller card, it might take them as being bad. I'll wager if you pull the drive, wait for it to spin down, then re-insert it, the controller card will see it as "good"

5 out of 5 eggsFastest thing i've had

Pros: I considered SSD but someone wasn't sober in the marketing department when they provided the price list.

I tried this as the next best thing for my build. Fastest transfer rate i've ever had on a machine. Quite happy with the the perfromance and the long track record of WD drives i've had with hardly issue.

Cons: None to speak of. Great bang for your buck and the next best thing to SSD drives.

2 out of 5 eggsfast but unreliable

Pros: fast for SATA 3.0 era hardware
...and that's it for PROs

Cons: loud
very small capacity for the price
very unreliable

Other Thoughts: I'm in IT and we've had about two dozen of these drives running in our production environment for the past few years. We've seen close to a 50% failure rate since the initial deployment and we spend too much time and money on the RMA process for each drive. At this point it probably makes more sense to get a current-generation 7200RPM drive and I suspect performance is in the same ballpark. By far we see more WD drives fail then all other brands combined so I would not recommend running a WD drive unless it's in some kind of redundant RAID setup - they're just not reliable, sorry WD.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: I have run 2 x 150 gb raptors(HLFS) in raid0 for more than 2 years with no issues whatsoever. I liked them so much I installed 2 x 600 gb raptors in raid0 in my UD9 build - which have worked flawlessly for more than a year now. Fast and dependable - period.

Cons: None for the 150's - the 600 's didn't come with the ice pack - no worry though - I have fan which blows across them and they stay cool to the touch. WD said this is OK. Warranty's still good. So this isn't really a con.

Other Thoughts: I would have no problem suggesting these to my friends.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Drive!!!!!

Pros: 1. Gamer's best friend!
2. Very, VERY quiet.
3. Crazy fast!
4. Cool lookin heatsink the drive sits in :)

Cons: 1. It's not an SSD but who cares. It's still really freakin fast.

Other Thoughts: The drive finally died on me around 7/20/11. It happens, all drives die sometime whether it's 2 weeks or 10 years. Just depends.

I contacted WD and they sent me a brand new drive (same one) and I got it 4 days later! Awesome customer service on their end!! The warrenty is crazy good on their drives.

Like with any drive ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES!!! I'm glad I did :) :)
