Cons: Drive hangs and dramatically slows the system (XP Pro) while attempting to write files of any type. When the hang times out, it then it disables and dismounts from system. When reconected, reenabled and reinstalled to system, computer management displays drives as unknown possibly corrupted.
Other Thoughts: Purchased two of these drives for two systems as a place for the pictures and music. Cannot get this device to accept ANY type of file, this is after several reformats, and the other various and sundry tasks to make a disk drive usable. Placed call to WD. No help there. Overall WD was, and maybe still is, my drive of choice. This is after my very bad experiences with recent Seagate drives.

Pros: This device uses less then 1 watt when its not on (many routers, computers, other devices use 2-7watts when "off" but plugged in)
The harddrive turns on and off with your computer/device. Great power savings and no need for a power switch. With a long USB cord (comes with a medium, about 18inch cord) you can jam this way out of the way and not worry about having to reach it to turn it on or off or unplug it to save power.
Data transfer rate is better then average, only mild heat after heavy use. Not much sound, need to look at the light to see if its being used.
I think it was around 14watts when transferring files.
Good price for size.
Cons: A little wide I guess, warranty is a little short.
Didnt use the included software, but heard it was a trial only. There are decent alternatives online.
Other Thoughts: Bought this to install linux on co-workers PS3 cause his internal 40gig was full of poorn.
Formatted 30gigs ext3 for Linux, rest for FAT32, 3 gigs on PS3 harddrive for swap file.
The big fat32 partition shows up and works great on the PS3, in linux on the PS3, or on his laptop so he can have his poorn anywhere.
Ubuntu linux on his PS3 is able to rip his poorn DVDs to the FAT32 partition as long as no scene is larger then 4 gigs (he said non are).
This external drive auto-shutdown-startup when he turns on/off his PS3.

Pros: Great enclosure with lots of ventilation holes but needs a little stand to mount it on, does not get at all hot.unit can hold a lot of interesting stuff..do'nt buy a cheap back-up for your prized collection!!
Cons: whats with the fat 32 mess and bloatware-first thing I had to do was learn how to reformat it to NTFS and I ain't no computer genius !!!
