You have trusted Western Digital with your data for years, now they have made it easy to back up your entire network. The 2TB ShareSpace Network Storage System is a 4 bay storage solution with room for expansion. The 2x1TB drives are shipped in spanning mode though you can switch to RAID 0 or 1. RAID 5 is available if you populate the other 2 bays.

The ShareSpace has 3 USB 2.0 host ports. The 2 ports on the back are available for additional drives. The front port works in conjunction with a front panel button. Just plug in a flash drive, push the button and the data is transferred to the drive array.

The ShareSpace has a built in iTunes server so everybody on the network can enjoy the music. There is also an FTP server so friends or customers can log in and get the data that they need.

Pros: Simple setup. Easy interface. Good throughput on a 1 Gb network. Nice to have three USB ports -- two for regular connections and one for push button backup and restore capability. RAID 0,1 and 5. Standard FTP funtionality over Internet allowing unlimited users with access control. Runs quiet and cool.

Cons: User access control is only for root folder level, not for folders within folders. Maximum supported HD size is 1 TB (up to four). Maximum supported drive size through a USB port is 2 TB.

Other Thoughts: An excellent NAS for the price.

Not compatible w/Win 7

Pros: This system looks great for my needs once it is Win 7 compatible

Cons: I sent an email asking what Western Digital NAS systems are compatible with Windows 7. This is the response I got..."Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support.

I apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately at this moment none of our NAS drives are compatible with Windows 7."

Other Thoughts: I'd love to buy one of their NAS drives, but will have to wait until they get Win 7 compatible.

Great buy for a home network

Pros: Small, super quiet, quick and easy setup.

Cons: User interface needs improvement. Mionet is very invasive, does not support 64-bit OS (yet) - I dumped Mionet after a week of messing with it. FTP works great instead.

Other Thoughts: I use it mainly for file storage but it does well with streaming music over wireless G. I hope that as drives get into 2+ TB the firmware on this will be updated to support them. Overall, I am very happy with this NAS.

Pros: Nice box

Cons: Problems w/ browser interface not responding. Cannot join domain. Replaced first unit and second has the same issue. Sending it back for a different brand.
