1 out of 5 eggs15 days of use and already dying.

Pros: Western Digital

Cons: Not sure what happen to this drive. I was using it for holding data and incremental backups.

Today I check the drive with HD Sentinel and WD Lifeguard and it is showing all kinds of errors. According to HD Sentinel the drive had 15 days of power on time. Only 15 days!!!

Anyways the drive is now out of warranty of course.

1 out of 5 eggsDied

Pros: none

Cons: It was barely used. Spent hundreds of dollars and many days putting wedding videos on it, then let it sit while I waited for a backup hard drive. When I got the backup drive and plugged this into the computer, it was dead. All gone.

Other Thoughts: Time to go solid state.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Blue, as this is not the typical experience with the product.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo of these both failed

Pros: None.

Cons: I originally bought one of these which failed after about 9 months, developing bad sectors out the wazoo. It was still under warranty at the time, but WD's customer service was thoroughly unhelpful and kept trying to make me jump through hoops to get a "free" (except shipping costs) replacement. Since it was partially readable, I just ordered a new one while trying to recover as much as I could from the first one.

The second one just suddenly and abruptly failed on me after 2.5 years. This one was a complete and utter failure. My computer won't even recognize the fact that there is a disk connected.

These are the only two drives I have ever had fail on me in my entire life, out of over a dozen drives I've owned. I do everything I can to keep my HDDs operating in the best conditions, with cooling and ventilation.

Other Thoughts: After this experience, WD will be hard-pressed to convince me to buy anything from them ever again. I recommend staying away from WD like the plague. I have had two HDDs fail on me in my entire life plus one that worked rather poorly out of the box. All 3 of these were made by WD, 2009 or later. Plus their customer service has proven to me that their warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

WD used to be reliable, but in recent years they've become utterly worthless.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Black as this is not the typical experience with the product.

1 out of 5 eggsDied within 1 1/2 years

Pros: small size
500gb
sata 3

Cons: died in 1 1/2 years

Other Thoughts: Had this running in my media center for a year and a half, then suddenly it shut down and died.

It was my 2nd drive, holding my programs, my ssd was running windows as the C; drive. no idea why this hard drive would die so fast.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Blue, as this is not the typical experience with the product.
We are very sorry to hear that your drive did stopped working after such a short period of time. Western Digital does rigorously test and verify all of our drives, prior to shipping, with burn-in and diagnostic tests.
Although a component failure within a drive is a possibility for a failure, we do typically see power and improper cooling within an environment can contribute to a premature drive failure.
We stand behind our warranty for the duration of the products provided warranty period, and as such, we are here to support our products regardless of the circumstances. We would like to assure you that what you have experienced is extremely abnormal.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Tough to beat for the price.

08/23/2009 Purchase date, installed a few day later.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded the PS3 from 80GB to 500GB with this. Has worked well for a few years now.

Its a WD Blue, 5400 rpm, its going to be 'average' in terms of performance.
