I've been using it for a media server this whole time. Cons: One of them is starting to make a grinding noise but I just backed up everything. But after this long, I find that quite acceptable. Other Thoughts: Hopefully I can get some more life out of this and bide my time until the 6TB Red's come down in price. It was $93 (1TB Green) then, why is it $113 now? Finally failed after that time. I'm happy with that performance. Never had any issues prior to that. I had another of these drives that failed after about 3 years. It has run in my desktop since it was installed to replace another failed WD drive. I use it for storage, not the boot drive. Cons: Only lasted 4 years and now is not recognized at all but still spins. not bad for a spindle HDD, but I've seen other drives last longer. Other Thoughts: Seems like HDs just don't last like they used to. I remember older HDDs used to last forever, but now it seems like it is the most common thing to fail. I had a bit of prior notice up until the hard drive dying, at least; Windows would stop recognizing it now and then, and it would show up again after a reboot so I had plenty of time to back up my data. Don't make this your primary OS drive. It wasn't designed to be fast, it was designed to save power. Instead, use it for backup, extra storage, etc. Cons: Nothing really.
