2 out of 5 eggsWilted Greens

Pros: Large, quiet inexpensive drive

Cons: I have now used over 14 WD greens in the last 2 years. I have two servers in two different locations with 4 drive RAIDs. I have had 6 greens go bad out of the original 8. I have become very familiar with the RMA process. Power is regulated in both locations and I have OS drives on each (WD 500GB) which are still spinning just fine without failure. Very disappointing, since I generally like WD products.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother bad WD Green drive

Pros: Inexpensive, Low power consumption

Cons: Not suited for back-up usage

Other Thoughts: Purchased this for a Mac Pro G5 as 2nd bay storage for use with Time Machine back-ups. After a little over 2 years, the drive failed and was unable to be written to.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME

Pros: Just a solid green drive. Even though this one does not have the 64MB of cache the 1TB green drives I've purchased I really haven't noticed a difference. I still use this drive as a external backup for my security DVR. This means this drive is used to record live video 24x7 for 8 cameras for up to a week.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: LOVE IT!!

2 out of 5 eggs2 TB Green, failed after 2 years

Pros: Quiet, Less expensive than black.

Cons: Not reliable

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 drives in 2010 for my NAS. In April 2012 one broke and now June 2012 second broke. Fortunately there were 3 years warranty. But be careful they have change with 2 years now.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Cost, lower power consumption

Cons: Highly unreliable.

Other Thoughts: I had 5 of them in my Drobo array. 1 was dead in about week, two more have failed within the first year. It's a good thing they were discontinued.

1 out of 5 eggsA WD label does not guarantee quality.

Pros: None.

Cons: Unreliable.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of these for my new system and was thoroughly disappointed. The first drive failed within six months, and the other failed just after two years. I have tried many different hard drive manufacturers over the years, and have seen little difference in reliability among the "top" manufacturers, despite what the exceptional advertising from these companies will tell you.

1 out of 5 eggsWD Sucks

Pros: Lots of storage at not much cost... Seemed the most reliable option on the market _at the time._ (not any more)

Cons: WD warranty albeit painless is a complete SCAM. I bought 3 of these drives. Two have functioned flawlessly for years only throwing the occasional bad block. Bad blocks are a fact of life with drives this big. One of the drives was doing this excessively and so I sent it back. I have received 2 replacement drives each one worse than the next in terms of bad blocks. This experience has convinced that WD gets these drives with bad block issues and just low level formats them and puts them back in the warranty pool. The spec of dust causing the problem (or whatever) is still in the drive waiting dormant to ambush the unsuspecting WD warranty user. I am tired of this and I am pretty sure that they are counting on me throwing up my arms and just going away. This is the last WD drive I will buy for a long time. Also, have you seen the bad reviews of WD 3TB drives are. Another frustrating thing is they replaced my WD20EADS drive with a WD20EARX drive on the last replacement.
