1 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: Capacity

Cons: Speed, reliability

Other Thoughts: I have 4-5 of these drives. 3 of them have failed after ~2 years and WD refuses to replace them. I understand that they are out of warranty, but such a high failure rate, to me at least, indicates a poorly made product. I am very disappointed that they will not do anything to remedy the situation. Also, all the drives were slow when they were in use. I would not recommend this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed!

Pros: Failed after about a year. Still under warranty, but required to return dead drive as is. Potential misuse of my information is not worth the $100 I'd save in an RMA replacement.

Very disappointed! Had always found WD drives to be reliable until now.

Cons: Unreliable

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Newegg no longer sells them.

Cons: Had this in the drawer in original packaging for a couple of years. Used it for 12 hours before total failure.

Other Thoughts: Out of warranty by 5 weeks. I think I'm about done with WD drives - I have many dozens of drives for personal use. Mostly Sa*****g, Se***te, and WD 'SA' has never failed me. WD has failed me on several occasions.
I keep lots of drives like this - get them on a good deal and use them when I need them. I've purchased hundreds, but never had one fail so completely, so quickly.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Express, we want to extend our sincere apologies for the issue you have experienced. Our goal is to provide world class customer service, and part of that goal in this situation would be to replace your drive, and investigate the cause relating to the products defect.

1 out of 5 eggsFailure

Pros: Cheap, Big

Cons: 3 failures out of 5 drives

Other Thoughts: No more WD for me. Don't expect the drives to last forever but, to have 3 drives fail right out of warranty is enough for me to swear off WD.

2 out of 5 eggsWilted Greens

Pros: Large, quiet inexpensive drive

Cons: I have now used over 14 WD greens in the last 2 years. I have two servers in two different locations with 4 drive RAIDs. I have had 6 greens go bad out of the original 8. I have become very familiar with the RMA process. Power is regulated in both locations and I have OS drives on each (WD 500GB) which are still spinning just fine without failure. Very disappointing, since I generally like WD products.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother bad WD Green drive

Pros: Inexpensive, Low power consumption

Cons: Not suited for back-up usage

Other Thoughts: Purchased this for a Mac Pro G5 as 2nd bay storage for use with Time Machine back-ups. After a little over 2 years, the drive failed and was unable to be written to.
