2 out of 5 eggsnot reliable

Pros: quite

Cons: after about 2-3 years it is dying. And this is my second drive after first died in 6 months.

Other Thoughts: i'm unpleasantly surprised to see media errors popping on the log. After digging in i see "pre-fail" conditions on the drive. I used it as a storage for kids photos , etc.
I have older drives (IDE) that a quietly humming along after 7 years.
BTWm this is the second drive - first died after 6 months. WDC was nice enough to send me a replacement. But now i doubt they will - the warranty is over.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Hard drive

Pros: Using it today as my gaming storage drive.
Fast
Doesn't park heads like newer models
SMART readout says 99% health and an estimate of over 1000 days left of life with 3 years of power on time use. Now that is Western Digital reliability right there!

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsstill running after 4 years

Pros: low power and reliable storage. Transfers fast enough for use in a home server

Cons: one of them died after 2 months but WD tech support replaced within 2 days once I confirmed error code using their easy to use diagnostic software

Other Thoughts: I used these originally in a Windows Home Server and they worked great for 3 years. A year ago I copied the data to another drive, reformetted them and put them in a new Windows 8 PC which I use as a home server. Added them to the easy to use "drive pool" in Windows 8 and have been running for a year now with no issues.
Just got a new 4TB version which I will use as a backup for these drives as well as backups of all the family PC's

1 out of 5 eggsBecame Worthless

Pros: The price was right for the size and using less power was good as it was intended for file storage not performance.

Cons: 5400 rpm, effective life of 2-3 years.

Other Thoughts: After about 2-3 years it started acting up.. dreadfully slow read times, writes just fine. Due to the read problem it is useless. I'm not happy at all about this.

1 out of 5 eggsAs any search will reveal, WD15EADS is junk

Pros: When it worked, it was cheap storage.

Cons: It stopped working after 18 months, reads from the drive would come to a crawl and make file copying impossible.

Other Thoughts: All things considered, a cheap hard drive used for media storage that lasted 18 months isn't a miserable experience, it's just disappointing. Western Digital has not adequately addressed the issue either, as any Google search related to WD15EADS-00P8B0 will reveal.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Cost

Cons: Quality

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these drives for use in a DNS-321 NAS. I started having problems with file transfers. Things would start out normal and then slowly degrade, with throughput dropping to zero and even aborting. I though it was the NAS itself, but after putting these drives into a new PC years later, I've come to find out that it's the drives themselves. Now I'm outside the warranty period. Lots of similar complaints about these drives on the net. Stay away.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrrible

Pros: zero.

Cons: worst hard drive ever, ever, ever,.... ever. EVER.

You're better off trying to remember in your head all the ones and zeros you want to store on these, you'll retain them longer.

Other Thoughts: not only terribly slow, these drives constantly fail. Expect to have to RMA it before the warranty is over, and once the warranty IS over.. expect the replacement to fail.

Green = GARBAGE.
