5 out of 5 eggsPS3

Pros: Works. Not really sure what to say aside from that. My original ps3 HD went bad and I thought my ps3 was done for. After some research i realized i could buy a new HD and install the software from my pc onto it. I had no idea what i was doing but with a few video tuts and researching i was able to save my ps3.

Cons: Still working to this day so none

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed, died <3 years

Pros: Cheap

Cons: This was in a Dell laptop that is 2.5 years old. The drive access light was constantly lit lately and starting to get software errors. I tested the drive with WD lifeguard and Dell diagnostics and it failed both; most likely with bad sectors. 5400rpm is too slow. Makes what should be a quick pc into a dog. Save yourself aggravation, worry and time and buy a faster drive or an ssd. You won't regret it.

Other Thoughts: Usually I have good luck with WD, but not this one. In this day and age, I don't even understand why they bother making 5400rpm drives. The hard drive is the bottleneck in systems there days. With the prices of ssds, you would not want to go back to a 7200rpm drive, let alone a 5400. Save your time and at least get a WD black drive.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Robby, please note that there are many variables that can result in a failed drive, such as power outages, accidental physical damage, and internal component failure from heat, just to name a few. We will gladly replace your in warranty device at no further cost to you. You may check your warranty and replace the drive online at the following link.

1 out of 5 eggsbought 2, both died

Pros: Cheap price. WD has a good replacement policy (you'll need it).

Cons: Unreliable.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these back in Sept. of 2011. The first died within 6 months. I didn't have a quick death like other posters. Rather, I got the dreaded clicking sound of death accompanied by read errors, few at first then about 1/second. This eventually caused my computer to be unusable and corrupted some files along the way. I RMA'd that drive to WD and got a 320GB replacement. I've always liked WD's return process. They ship you a new drive and then you can use the packaging to ship yours back (after transferring files if possible) and they've never asked for any real explanation.

The same errors started happeninig with the second drive about a month back. It's now March of 2013 so this one made it 1.5 years. I'm in the process of RMA'ing it too. I've just received the replacement.

A little backstory: I originally bought a 3.5" 500GB WD drive. It failed and I got a free replacement through the warranty. That replacement failed and I got another replacement. At that point, I sold the 3.5" and bought these two new 2.5" drives to run RAID 0 because I was tired of reinstalling operating systems. Now I've replaced both of those. The pattern seems to be that if you buy a lower end WD drive, you can expect to be sending it back.

4 out of 5 eggsbetter than most oem's

Pros: Runs silent like all other wd blue and green drives.
a 7200 rpm drive just doesnt seem to be any faster than this old tried and tested blue drive.A 5.7 in Windows 7 for a laptop drive isn't to shabby.

Cons: the only con is not this hard drive but sata hard drives in general and that is the past year price hike.

Other Thoughts: Now that ssd's are in the ballpark pricewise i would go with a ssd or better yet a hybird drive for new generation laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: So far so good. I placed it into a customers pc while back and so far it has not broken again yet :)

Cons: None so far. Wish it came with one of thos brace things the laptops use to hold the hard drive. Nothing I would be taking away a egg for it.

Other Thoughts: None. WD the best har drive maker. I wish they would start into the SSD market soon.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes what it is suppose to

Pros: Installed easy and worked right from the get go. Hard drive that crashed was a 7200rpm and this one is 5400rpm but do not notice programs installing any slower or opening an slower. Actually seems to work just as good or better than the junk Toshiba that died that came with the laptop. I really like Western Digital HDD. I have a refurbished External for my desktop and it works great also. Western Digital comes highly recommended.

Cons: I don't know if it is all laptop HDD's or just my Compaq Presario but these run kinda hot. Use of a good laptop cooler recommended.

Other Thoughts: For the price and performance you cannot go wrong with WD.
