1 out of 5 eggsWD Passport Elite Unwanted Software

Pros: Western Digital normally has a nice product line for external drives - I have used the older Passport drives working as a network admin for backing up files or using as a nice PE imaging solution - I love the older units

Cons: This new iteration of the Passport however comes with software that you may not want if you are looking to just store data AND the new sofware cannot be simply deleted as with past Passport drives - their install program will pop up everytime you plug in the unit - you can download a firmware update and then disable this unwanted software if you are technical enough and have the time - I checked this morning and the software which you cannot delete takes up 500MB on your Passport drive

Other Thoughts: Lastly Western Digital did not clearly label the box that there is backup software included that you will not be able to delete if you do not want to use it and that every single time you plug in the unit to your PC the software will try to install - this warning of course would discourage almost everyone from purchasing the new iterations of the Passport

1 out of 5 eggsDisconnect

Pros: 1) Small.
2) Dock.
3) Comes with carrying case.

Cons: Unreliable. I bought 2 of these with the intent of using one as a functional drive and the other as a backup drive of the first.
I was able to successfully transfer all of my files onto the first one. Once I began transferring files from the first one to the second one I noticed that the files became unavailable. I had to disconnect and reconnect the drive to use the files again. The point is that I am unable to access large amounts of data on this without failures. That makes this drive completely useless as a medium of backup or file protection.
Just keep in mind you can write files to one but if you ever intend to access those files en masse you better think about another drive.

Other Thoughts: I intended to use the backup software on the virtual CD as well.
The backup software will not allow you to specify folders or drives to be backed up. It will only allow you to do system backups for your system drive. Useless to me.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy & Portable

Pros: Suprisingly small, light and thin. Will fit in large pockets.
It comes with a docking station and a USB cable which is convenient for transfering between two devices.
Requires no seperate power cable. Gets power through the USB connection.

Cons: The software that comes with the hard drive takes up a significant fraction of storage space.

Other Thoughts: The docking station was tricky to figure out at first because the connector is sunk into the base and hard to see when trying to connect the device. After connecting it 2 or 3 times you get a feel for where the connector is though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HD

Pros: Sweet Docking Station
Also comes with a separate usb cable :)
A good amount of space
Hardware encrypted
Auto-Back up feature

Cons: Connection good but not as solid as i would like it, but it stays put
Virtual Drive (Great for installing-Can be disabled in Settings, otherwise pops up all the time)
Slippery (matte Finish)

Other Thoughts: When I first got the HDD, I thought its kinda tiny, and the cable felt loose connecting to the hard drive, so I kinda played with it a little bit and noticed the HDD is actually "floating" in the enclosure, kinda cool if its a hard drop *knock on wood*

Hardware encrypted feature works awesome, very secure stats, the only problem would be if your job/school has a semi-restricted user accounts, it will not let you run the "Unlock" feature, otherwise works without a hitch.

A hard case that is almost required for the My Passport Elite HDD, is actually the case made for My Passport Essential.
