5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Decent speed, Not a power hog, Perfect fit.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: I have had this hard drive for 1 year and 8 days and it is still going strong. I used it for a few months as a system drive and then I purchased a new laptop so I removed this drive from the old one and put the original 500 back in that and gave it to my dad. I took this 640 and put it in an external case and used it as backup for my data and media files. I have wiped, formatted, copy/paste from this drive for all of that time and it still is at 100% health. I wiped and formatted it yesterday and am using it for image file storage since my new laptop's Toshiba 750 hard drive is failing after 10 months. I have never had an issue with Western Digital and I have an additional HP PMD with a WD 500 in it and I have been using it non stop for 3 years now with no issue. Will be back to replace that Toshiba 750 with a WD very soon (waiting for it to die completely).
I highly recommend this HDD and any Western Digital HDDs.

4 out of 5 eggsplenty of storage

Pros: 598GB usable capacity is good deal for 60 USD.

Cons: not as quite as my ex- 500GB 7200RPM Seagate and little slower.

Other Thoughts: It is great drive for secondary hard-drive, but for fast boot and application load I am use an SSD drive.

2 out of 5 eggsOne bad apple?

Pros: Large capacity; great price (at the time - Black Friday sales price $50)

Cons: Died in three months.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I got the one bad drive in the batch, but this drive refused to boot almost exactly 90 days after it was installed. I managed to boot from an external drive and make this one at least mount for another week. Most of the data was extracted, but I'm still unable to access a library folder that has all the mail that accumulated in that three months. Right, poor backup strategy in place, and that's being fixed, too. You know that all drives fail eventually, but if it's working perfectly for the first three months, you don't expect it to die tomorrow. Live and learn. I think WD generally has a good reputation, and I might even get another one. If not, I'll get a Hitachi.

5 out of 5 eggsPS3 = Upgraded

Pros: -Worked with my PS3

Cons: -Not a 7,200 or solid state drive

Other Thoughts: So much space! I bought this without checking for lists of drive compatibility with my 1st gen PS3. The upgrade was so easy. Formatted the sucker for FAT32 using EASUS Partition Master, and loaded the PS3 software.

Been running great and the PS3 feels like a different device now that I have 500GB of free space. Thrilled with this little purchase and as always, sleep better knowing the drive is WD.

5 out of 5 eggsIt Works

Pros: Best hard drive for the money. 9.5mm height, so it fit my Dell 1545n perfectly. 597GB of usable space after partitioning and formatting. Very quiet and cool. Very good packaging when they shipped it.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Is it sad when your laptop has more storage than your desktop? Also, wish I got it when it was $50 instead of $60.
