5 out of 5 eggsGreat for backup

Pros: Very easy to use. On Linux, it's identified as "elements", rather than the UUID of the drive. Making it very easy to identify if you have multiple drives plugged in.

Cons: On Linux, it's identified as "elements", rather than the UUID of the drive. Ran into a bit of an issue by having more than one of these. You will need to modify one to avoid any issues. I didn't feel this was reason enough to give < 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: Use rsync once a day to incrementally back up everything on my machine.

4 out of 5 eggsWD Elements 500GB External

Pros: Works well

Cons: No on/off switch, needs to be unplugged to shut down, a "green" drive, the least desirable

Other Thoughts: Used it to create an image of the "C" drive as a recovery

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: it was cheap

Cons: The motor burned out in a hurry. I turned it off quite often and didn't run it unless I needed to store/access files on it, but it broke in about 7 months of use. I had to transfer the platters manually, NOT a good experience.

Other Thoughts: Buy something made of sturdier stuff.

1 out of 5 eggsa faulty drive

Pros: the memory you get for the price is pretty good and the drive itself is pretty lightweight and unobtrusive.

Cons: After 3 months, the drive faulted and lost all my data. that's 465 gb of information i had accumulated. I had a collection of doctor who i was keeping on this and i lost all of it.

Other Thoughts: While the price is good for the memory, the life expectancy was way lower than average to say the least. I can't even use the drive anymore, it wants to format every time i try to plug it in.

5 out of 5 eggsHaven't used it much

Pros: It transfers files.I haven't used it much other than to transfer files between builds, but I'l do some more with it later.

Cons: The transfer rate is stupidly slow. But I can't really knock eggs off for that because it's in the product description.

Other Thoughts: I'm not a computer expert, and this part was used during my first build. Enthusiasts, ignore what I have to say.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Only had a few days. Was instantly recognized by my PC and is working great. Small size is easily placed in work area.

Cons: Short USB cable. Used one I had from a broken Seagate drive so I could set it where I wanted it.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to look in manual to assure what the different sequences of operation lights meant, but there is no explanation. Seems fine, but I'm one who reads manuals for full understanding.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This hard drive is very quiet, except for a very faint whirring noise when it spins up. Stays cool even when copying a few dozen gigabytes of data. Transfers files quickly and with no problems. Transfer rate is usually between 25 and 30MB/s, depending mostly on the number of files being copied. Case is sturdy. Worked right out of the box with no issues.

Cons: No off-switch. Would be nice to be able to shut the hard drive off before unplugging it, or to shut it off without unplugging it.

Hard drive periodically spins up for no apparent reason, which can be a bit disconcerting, although it's likely due to the operating system, not the drive itself.

Other Thoughts: Bought this drive for storing large files, in order to free up space on the internal drive of a laptop. It fulfills that purpose quite well. Never intended to move it except maybe once a year. Note that this is not a portable drive. It's a large black brick that also works wonderfully as a paperweight when unplugged.
