4 out of 5 eggsDrive works good

This review is from: WD Elements 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: So far the drive has performed well. I have it as a backup drive as well as storing larger data files.

Cons: It can be a bit slow in file transfer at times but it is not too bad.

2 out of 5 eggsAVOID

This review is from: WD Elements 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: It's a hard drive, about average cost, you can store things on it... temporarily anyway.

Cons: Not a year old, purchased from Newegg in late May 2013.
Has lad light use, sitting in a nice cool spot.

Just plain quit this week. Dead.

Just remember, you're going to die someday, you didn't really need all that data, did you?

Other Thoughts: Remember when Western Digital (briefly) was considered the best quality? It seems every label has its turn at the top.
Western Digital's turn as "the reliable drive" has ended.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jafafa, we will like to help you with whatever issue you are having related to your WD device. Regardless of the reason for your drives defect, we stand by our product, and would like to replace your drive for you directly.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: WD Elements 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: they work

Cons: they were all x4, 1.5 tb not 2.0

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer, we thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to us. Determining drive capacity can be confusing at times because of the different measurement standards that are often used. When dealing with Windows and Mac based systems, you will commonly see both decimal measurements and binary measurements of a drive's capacity. In either case, a drive's capacity is measured by using the total number of bytes available on the drive. As long as the drive displays the correct number of bytes (approximate), you are getting the drive's full capacity. For more information regarding this subject, please follow the link below.
Drive displays a smaller capacity than the indicated size on the drive label

1 out of 5 eggsHD Completely Dead

This review is from: WD Elements 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: Can't think of any.

Cons: Drive is completely dead. I tried it on a number of PCs using various cables and OSs. I have been building my own PCs for several years and have bought many Hard Drives in the past. This is the only one that has completely died on me.

Other Thoughts: After the warranty period, you have absolutely no recourse with WD. Customer Service essentially told me that my choices were to either throw it away or pay an expensive service to recover the data.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ken S., we want to extend our apologies for the issue you have experienced. It is unfortunate you received a drive that stopped working so soon after it was delivered. Please allow us the opportunity to correct this issue for you, resulting in a positive resolution to your issue. 5 out of 5 eggsworks great

This review is from: WD Elements 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: never had a problem with this, has been in use over a year

Cons: nothing bad to say here

Other Thoughts: Mine has been in use over a year, used every day as a backup. What may be worth noting is that I have never moved it (other than shifting around within a foot or so)

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Last.

This review is from: WD Elements 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: When it's new, it's great...

Cons: When it's new, it's great... but it doesn't last. I was using this with Time Machine for backups and it just up and died and went into "read only mode" for no reason. I've seen this online and apparently there's nothing you can do.

If you need a drive that will last longer than a year, 9 months and 29 days... then stay away from this one.

Other Thoughts: I'm probably going to shy away from buying Western Digital drives for backup in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDied :(

This review is from: WD Elements 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Pros: Got it on sale for $69.99

Cons: Drive is slowly dying.

Other Thoughts: After about 6 months of usage (for storing movies and pictures) this drive started giving me errors. It's gotten worse and is almost unusable now. It's unfortunate, but I guess it could happen with any brand. I'll be searching for a Seagate next.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jim, we thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to us. We are very sorry to hear that your drive did not function so soon after it was delivered. We will stand by our warranty policy and replace your drive for you directly. Follow the links below for more information.
