The Western Digital Elements 640GB Hard Drive uses less power and supports quieter, cooler-running desktop PCs. This hard drive is suitable for high-performance home and business computing, as it can handle high-end data-intensive and multimedia applications.
Pros: In Vista x64, just plug it in and the drive works in seconds! Default partition/formatting for the drive is NTFS. Drive peeks around 40MB/sec transfer rate read and write (which is roughly the maximum transfer rate of USB2.0 period). The drive is almost completely silent, only with my laptop fan off and the drive actively seeking can I actually hear it.
Cons: White Power/Active LED light might be a tad bit too bright for some people, so dont point it directly in your eyes!
Other Thoughts: It was a tough choice between this or a 1-1.5TB external drive for the same price range. I opted for this one due to the fact that it is fully USB powered. In the end, no regrets. I much love the ability to simply plug it into any system, and go, without the need or worry about a power cable (which we always forget, right)? Since this drive uses a standard USB-Mini cable, if you forget yours, you can simply pull one from something else.

Pros: No annoying firmware loader. Use a standard mini USB cable. Doesn't get hot.
Cons: Is slightly longer an thicker than WD's Passport drives.
Other Thoughts: Got it with free shipping, it's small enough, as fast as USB permit, plenty of space to back up my files, I'm satisfied. :)

Pros: Fast writes for so small a HD. Hardy little guy, can take a beating.
Cons: Non for the HD, but wish the cable was longer.

Pros: Large Capacity Great Price at $99.99 w/ Free Shipping Reputable company Fast read/write speed Durable Doesn't Leave Fingerprints Not a Y USB cable!
Cons: Short USB cable.
Other Thoughts: It would be nice fo WD to put some rubber on the corners, just enough where if it happened to fall it could absorb some of the shock.

Pros: It's great. Lot's of space for cheap. Still a werkin'.
Cons: Kinda slow, but I expected that.
Other Thoughts: It was really really slow for me when copying from old WD external USB drive to new WD portable using Windows 7 64 bit. Don't know why. Couldn't just do a copy of 200 gigs. Had to do folder by folder in some cases. Probably could have found some robust software to do it for me, but was being lazy.
