5 out of 5 eggsNo problems Encountered

Pros: I made my friend purchase this hdd when it first came out (he worked for an electronics distributer at the time so got a deal). I got it a couple months later on a discount. We both use it connected to WD media players (pretty sweet by the way). Never had a problem with either of our hdds. I use my fairly frequently - watch at least 1-2 movies a week if not more so and that includes transferring the movies (often up to 7-8GB though more often than not 700mb- 1.4GB). I'm sure it would be quicker if it was USB3.0 but that wasn't offered when it came it.

Cons: Slower than USB 3.0 (but then thats obvious) - doesn't affect media playback though and I normally only transfer a 1-2 movies at a time which really doesn't take that long so its not that big of a con.

Other Thoughts: Newegg doesn't seem to have any in stock at the moment and I was going to buy another as a present. I'm guessing there must be a USB 3.0 variant of this either out now or in the works but it wouldn't really benefit anyone without USB 3.0 support anyways.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible hard drive

Pros: Quite big and relatively cheap.

Cons: I had a lot of problems with this drive. First, the cable is not standard. Its connector is quite fragile, and -even with care taken- it will break sooner than expected. It disconnects at the first move.
Second, the bloatware. It just sucks. Third, the response time: it does stop to soon.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't ever recommend this drive. I was a WD fan, and I have three other external drives (My Passport 500GB). Those three are *great* -and customer service was nice (I had one RMA).

But this one is horrible. Someone should fire the designers. I'm afraid I'm not buying WD anymore.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome little thing

Pros: Very portable. Small. Sleek. Tons of storage.

Cons: Slow transfer speeds. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

1 out of 5 eggsbeware of fragile connector

Pros: Good storage capacity
Small form factor

Cons: fragile connector - failed shortly after departure for international work. Data is no longer retrievable from the drive. What's worse is that there's no service option unless you like sending your data off to who-knows-where for support. Even with full encryption... i'm sure most of us have rules on handing off materials to uncontrolled/external parties.

I did have much better luck with the PassPort 750GB model. And, thankfully it's my backup.

Other Thoughts: Don't depend on this device as the failure rate appears to be a problem for the 1TB model. Since the device doesn't fail until about 2 weeks into usage, this can lead to unfortunate events depending on dependencies.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: High capacity, small size makes for a robust, portable hard drive.

Cons: MicroUSB is a weak link for this drive. I was traveling with this drive and did not remove the cable (looks so similar to a regular USB plug) and stowed the drive in my carry on bag. Found out I put too much stress on the connection and the drive would not work -- until I fiddled with the connection and used a weight to keep it angled in a particular way. Was able to off load my data from the drive, but will be buying a new drive that does NOT use the MicroUSB connector.

5 out of 5 eggsto all with a crashed drive...

Pros: those that are complaining about the drive crashing after only a few months are MOST LIKELY the same crowd that just unplugs the drive without first telling Windows to disconnect it.

It only makes sense that if thumb drives fail from being improperly unplugged, Hard drives can too. This is the 3rd WD passport that I own, and use on an every day basis to run MS virtual machines. It hasn't failed me yet, and my other two are still going strong after 2 years.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Don't hesitate to buy. These drives are nice, and no one is reporting any DOA problems, rather problems after use. Could what i mentioned above be suspect? Most likely, YES. Buy with confidence Neweggers.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't depend on it...

Pros: Small, no need to carry a bulky A/C adapter. Cheap.

Cons: 2/2 drives failed suddenly. After the first one, I learned not to trust this for anything other than shuttling (i.e., no long-term storage).

Other Thoughts: Wouldn't suggest this as a backup drive - in fact, make sure to buy a different drive from a different manufacturer to back up this one!
