4 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Great Drive, Worked well for me for the 3+ years I had it.
Bought it at 2/1/2011.

Cons: Died shortly after 3 years.

I had no signs that the drive was failing, except one day I turn on PC and it says I have to run chkdsk on failing drive and it is inaccessible. Fortunately this drive has just movies/songs on it but its unfortunate that I can't get into it anymore. Will continue trying.

Other Thoughts: Great drive but feel like it died too soon.

1 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: I liked the price & performance when I purchased it but then I thought it was going to last for awhile.

Cons: Less than two years old, it was lightly used in a ups protected home server and it's dying.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks fine -- for a while

Pros: Low noise, low power consumption. Nice and big.

Cons: Fails way too early. Four drives on one machine powered 24/7 - two failed within an hour of each other. One previously DoA and replaced, so of 7 recent (four years) WD drives, three have failed. Do you see a pattern here?

Other Thoughts: RAID 1 is not safe. You *can* lose both drives at once.

5 out of 5 eggsWD AV-GP WD10EVDS--Best Choice for TIVO Upgrade or Replacement

Pros: Very Quiet.

Built for 24/7 operation.

Huge capacity:1tb=150 hours of HiDef Recording.

Cons: Not free.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased and am using two of these drives as replacement/capacity upgrades in my TIVOs (Series3 THX & Series4 Premeire).
Both of my Tivo's came with Western Digital regular, non DVR specific hard drives. The 250gb hd in my Series3 lasted 2.5 years, and the 320gb in my Premiere S4 lasted only 7 months.
So far, the AV-GP WD10evds 1tb drives are working great--and much quieter than the OEM drives.

5 out of 5 eggsReplacement for my TivoHD

Pros: After some initial issues that were resolved using wdidle3 utility, this drive was a great replacement for my 2nd failed TivoHD hard drive

Cons: needed to reset idle timer to make it fully compatible with TivoHD

1 out of 5 eggsBuy if your data is NOT important

Pros: Large capacity and runs cool

Cons: I've bought 4 in the last 8 months. Placed the first pair into service in February as a networked mirror for video surveillance in 2 Iocell NDAS gigabit enclosures located in 2 different locations in the building. One drive died with bad sectors and read errors in 5 months. Replaced with one of the spares and RMA'd WD for another spare. Second drive in second enclosure died yesterday. Tried to replace with one of the spares and the spare drive had bad sectors and read errors right out of the box. Replaced again with the other spare last night. This morning the raid failed with bad sectors in the member that was just replaced. Tested the drive with WD software and guess what? The drive has bad sectors and read errors. So, 3 more drives go to back to WD for RMA. Now, out of 4 original drives, and one replacement drive from WD (one they have already replaced - that's 5 total drives), there is one drive that works - one that was put into service 2 months ago when the first drive failed.

Other Thoughts: Thankfully, I am using these in a raid mirror so I can get to the data when one drive dies. Now, what are the chances both raid members will die on the same night? Makes me worry, and you should too. If your data is important, don't use this drive. At least make sure you use it in a fault tolerant raid. The one good thing I can say is that WD makes it very easy to RMA a drive. Not sure if any of the next 3 replacements they will be sending will work or have read errors and bad sectors or not - but we will see. I think I'm done with these drives. Perhaps I can trade them to someone who records TV shows on a Tivo or something. Who cares if you loose a rerun.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat price on lots of space

Pros: Replaced a WD AV-GP 320 Gb in my H-264 CCTV DVR with this unit and it plugged right up and is running fine. DVR Formatted it to 931 Gb usable.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: These AV-GP drives are not speed demons due to their design. It's made to run in write mode 24/7 365 days a year in DVR applications to record and play back audio and video files. So be aware.

5 out of 5 eggsJust evening things up

Pros: I'm just leaving this 5 egg review to compensate for the 1 egg review left by Nastee. Just because you have shipping problems does not mean the product is bad.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I'm so sick of dumb people that give a bad review because of a missing rebate or slow shipping. These reviews are supposed to be about the performance of the product.

If you had problems with the rebate or shipping, leave a comment here, in the "other thoughts" section but give an honest review of how the product performs!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Whisper quiet, this is a great drive working perfectly in my Cisco Explorer 8642 Box. It was simply a drive replacement and the Cisco ox reloaded all necessary drivers and took care of the rest, The 8642 Box is limited to 1tb and below drives.

Cons: Beware of the drives that use AF this drive is the EVDS (non-AF) not one of the EURS (AF) drives. Works perfect in my boxes and as advertised. Unlike the previously stated AF drives which floundered and were incompatible with the Linux environment used by Cisco Explorer 8642.
