1 out of 5 eggsDOA - Stay Away!

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Died in less than an hour. Why do I keep buying WD? I guess I will learn eventually.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat so far!

Pros: Huge amount of space for dirt cheap. I bought 2 for video storage on and its been perfect so far.
Not all hdd are for the same purpose, these are great for storage, u want speed go get a SSD for boot and a black for running games on, thats my setup. Don't complain if you're using things the wrong way.

Cons: Some claim DOA's, my 2 worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier about it, but I might have been lucky.
Others claim problems with XP, might be trouble for some, I run 7 x64 ultimate and had NO problems at all.

My only personal complaint is 3 year warranty instead of the 5 year from the "black" series.

Other Thoughts: Mine were shipped really well, tight bubble wrap,in small boxes, no room to move around the large box during transport, i was impressed actually, I've ordered allot online and its rarely packaged that well. That may be why mine still worked. thx newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsSpacious, Speedy, Cool

Pros: Very Quiet, Reasonably speedy.

I'm using 4 of these drives on a Dell Perc 5/i on Linux. The system is mostly a NAS device, but the VMware sessions i'm running on it seem responsive and stable.

Low power usage is a nice feature, i have a 330W power supply with these 4 drives and 4 low power Samsung spinpoint 1.5Tb drives. It shows no sign of strain, and things run very cool compared to my old 7@7200rpm raid setup.

Cons: None so far, though i am concerned by some of the reliability remarks.

Other Thoughts: I will update if there are issues. It is likely i will run these drives near 24/7/365 for the next 3 years.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for 1 hour

Pros: None (Size doesn't matter if you can't use it).

Cons: Poor reliability. It should have lasted 3-5 years, not 1 hour. It never even finished the normal (long) format. Now it just clicks and makes strange sounds. Tried it on 3 machines (just to be sure) and none can detect it now.

Other Thoughts: Newegg bare-drive packing was ok I guess (bubble-wrapped and in a small box) ... placed in larger box with paper and other items. Much better than before but could still be better. I don't know if it was the shipping, the 2tb crammed onto 1 drive, or the new Adv. Format, but if this is WD quality, I going to switch away. I'll try WD once more but probably back to 1tb Blacks.

1 out of 5 eggsHmmm

Pros: High Capacity, Advanced Format drive, 64MB Cache, Low Power Consumption

Cons: This thing was DOA... I made sure my ASUS (785 chipset) motherboard had the latest BIOS update (2105), changed the SATA controllers from IDE to ACHI and back, swapped out SATA ports, all to no avail. I am sending it backa nd getting a replacement. Hopefully I can then give a better review!

Some people complained of lag, I think it may be there HDD controller. I plugged it into my GA-7NNXP mobo and yes there was lag; everything paused, started, paused.... It is in my new build now ( GA-880GMA-UD2H mobo) and there is none at all. I have not updated my GA-7NNXP sata drivers to see if that fixed it.

4 out of 5 eggsPlenty of storage capacity

Pros: Plenty of storage capacity for the price. I give it 4 eggs since it's an internal drive.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: I read the instructions on the packet, put the jumper in place, formatted drive, off to work I go. I've got three of these drives in place now, working fine, and running cool.

Cons: None that I can see.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people are reporting DOA, I do wonder if they are reading the clear, printed instructions on the outside of the packet.
