5 out of 5 eggsStill alive after three years

Pros: alive after three years. Multiple formats, and tons of games being installed and removed.

Cons: It's not an SSD

5 out of 5 eggsMade me a true believe in Westerd Digital for all my mechanical hard drive needs.

Pros: Nice high capacity. (For 2013 when I bought it.) Speedy for a mechanical drive with a big cache.

Cons: For what it is, none? Are there better drives out there? Sure. SSDs have gotten pretty big and inexpensive lately.

Other Thoughts: This drive has lasted the life of my computer, and will likely continue to work just fine in my son's computer. It has shown me that I can fully trust WD with mechanical drive purchases.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Very fast for a mechanical drive.

Cons: Was a bit expensive for a 1 TB ($100)

Other Thoughts: Great drive if an SSD is too expensive for your build.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning strong 5 years later

Pros: Plugged it into new build in 2010, and it is still running strong.

I've had 2 seagates, a Toshiba and a Samsung. However, 1 seagate was external, but it fell off a breakfast nook table to carpet, and stopped working.

Cons: It was rated SATA 3 and 6Gbps, but on my old 965BE setup, the tests show just normal 3Gbps. I think in new stuff it will be full speed.

Other Thoughts: Saw my old order, and realized, that this hard drive has been in a computer that has almost been on non-stop for over 5 years, and has been through multiple OS's in that time.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive bit the dust 1 yr in

Pros: Worked OK for a year.

Cons: Worked OK for a year.

Other Thoughts: I don't expect a HDD to last a lifetime. I do expect them to last a few years. I don't care about replacing it with another but a crash that ruined 20+ hours of work is unacceptable. WD wasted my time on a poor product and it will be the last WD I ever own. Don't let them waste your time too.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: -fast
-1tb!
-quiet (makes little working noises when read/write but otherwise silent)
-it hasn't failed

Cons: -it's now 180 bucks. i got it at 100
-931 GB formatted isn't technically a terabyte but it's good enough

Other Thoughts: I've had this thing as a data and program drive alongside an ssd C drive, and it's awesome. I'm using about 300GB of the 931 available.

I thought it'd be slow, but i'm getting 120MB/s seq read and write, 512KB random read 76 and 132 write, 4KB random is 0.728 read and 1.465 write, and 4KB (QD32) 1.870 read and 1.594 write. That's pretty darn good compared to drives a few years ago.

Photoshop/lightroom launches instantly. games are quick.
A year and a half, and strong. Very happy with this drive. I'd buy another.

1 out of 5 eggsPray you don't need an RMA

Pros: Great drive... when it works.

Cons: Bought three of these. The first two work great. The third one sat in a box until I needed it a month ago. When I plugged it up, it was dead. Ran several tests, and it is definitely doa. Navigated a maze of tech support and ended up talking to someone who could barely make out what I was saying. After 20 mins. on hold, I was finally issued an RMA number. But, that RMA number doesn't match up to the Western Digital site. The site tells me that the RMA doesn't exist, so I can't send it back. Time is money, and I've already wasted money on this product. The support for western digital SUCKS.

Other Thoughts: Support with any company is a joke today. Might as well budget that part of your gear simply won't work, and you'll have to repurchase it without a refund.
