3 out of 5 eggsMeh...Worked beyond the warranty periods

Pros: Puchased 2 drives in 2011 to install in a NAS. One started reporting bad sectors after 3 years of use (24x7) and the other died after 5 years.

Cons: I tad bit on the slow side.

Other Thoughts: I've had several WD, Toshiba, Hitachi, and Seagate drives in multiple configurations (eHDD, internal disks, NAS, RAID) and I've now had 4 WD drives go bad over the past 10 years, but never had any issues with the others. I will probably buy WD in the future (if it's the cheapest for what I need) but if price is the same with another brand I will lean away from WD.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I purchased 2 of these and one was full of bad spots within 10 hours of use. I have a total of 6 of these around my office and two of them went bad. Overall they work ok.

Cons: A few bad drives.

1 out of 5 eggsWD blue gives me the blues

Pros: high capacity, good name of WD

Cons: failed within 1 week, bad sectors , computer cannot even recognize drive in windows, all my time restoring data to it wasted. now got to replace it, hopefully with a black model, never buy a blue or a green again.

Other Thoughts: buy the black.

1 out of 5 eggsUnusually BAD WD Drive - An Anomoly

Pros: High capacity
Reasonable price

Cons: Numerous bad sectors beginning with SECTOR ONE

Other Thoughts: I don't usually have to write bad reviews on the hardware I buy, especially my favorite brands, but in this case it is necessary. In Jan 2011, when I was doing some projects, I bought three WD HDDs for building, expanding, and emergencies. One of them was a BLUE label WD Caviar 1TB drive Model (WD10EALS), serial WCATR1759622. It stayed on the shelf, sealed until May 23, 2013 a few weeks after my wife suffered a stroke and I simultaneously needed a new disk. I opened the pkg and tried to partition and format it, but was unsuccessful. I opened another disk and dealt with the problem and put this disk aside until I had time to look at it. Last week, I wanted to use this 1TB Caviar in a USB bridge to record an image of a Netbook. I found I could not get the Netbook to read the disk and neither could two other computers. I tried running one testing utility unsuccessfully and finally used MiniTool Partition Wizard Free for a surface test. It immediately began to report bad sectors starting with SECTOR ONE. In fact, of the first 10 blocks on the screen, the tool found that SEVEN were bad. When all the testing was done, 48 bad blocks were found all over the disk, mostly in lower numbered sectors and tracks.
The warranty on the disk is long gone, but it is apparent that this disk manufactured in the Thailand factory on June 15, 2010, should have never gotten out the door to be sold. I also realized that I should have opened the package and "certified" the disk immediately when I bought it. That takes it out of its safe dry environment, but at least I could have gotten it replaced just after I bought it. I prefer WD HDD, but I will be more cautious in the future and will switch to WD black or red label disks for future buys. I'm testing another of the blue disks and it's doing fine. The third is still sealed in its anti-static bag. So I'm definitely at the 50% mark of bad disks and may only be at 33% - that pulls my rating down to 1 egg rather than the normal of 5 for WD. I still prefer WD, but this was not a fun exercise - I have a picture of the defects found on the drive if WD is interested and they can have the drive to study, it's just a paperweight..

4 out of 5 eggsHad a good run

Pros: Had this HDD for over 7 years and it ran like a champ. Speeds were more than adequate and I picked it up for a cheap price.

Cons: Seems like a steep price now. After 7 years finally crashed, but that it more than its expectancy

5 out of 5 eggs2013 and it's still going strong!

Pros: It's years later, I've had no issues and love these in my systems. I use blue's in all my builds! Had one failure of a different model blue which was replaced and put back into the raid1 array. All is good! Good product, good support, and good quality!

Cons: The idiot who doesn't use the system to get warranty and complains about the product, or the idiot who takes eggs off for poor shipping by Newegg when it wasn't the products fault.

5 out of 5 eggsup 16,176 hours so far

Pros: Purchased this drive back in June 2010. So far it has been running without any issues. Fast enough for "every day" use. Mine runs at about 35c and has been powered on 1178 times so far. Over 16,000 hours so far.

Cons: None at this point.

Other Thoughts: I also run two other seagate drives (been running much longer) and those are also running without any issues.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat reliable and inexpensive drive

Pros: Fast enough for most uses, quiet, inexpensive. Reliable, has been running almost continuously in my windows home server computer for over 2 years with no problems.

Cons: Slightly slower than WDC Black drives but not enough to notice for most uses. Shorter warranty. Doesn't come in a 2TB version.

Other Thoughts: I got this drive a few years ago as the primary storage in my windows home server computer, and it has been perfect. I know it is a tiny bit slower than the WDC Black drives, doesn't have the same warranty, and supposedly isn't rated for continuous operations, but this drive has been more than fast enough for its purpose, it is quiet, and after more than 2 years of continuous operation it still is running very reliably.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Died after around 2 years of use while my black WD drive has been going strong for over 4 years now.

Other Thoughts: I only used it as a storage drive.
