Cons: - Taller than most laptop drives - Average transfer speed
Other Thoughts: Like many people here I missed the fact that the drive is 12.5mm tall. It was supposed to replace a 500GB drive I used to use for backups and file transfer in an external enclosure, but the WD10TPVT did not fit.
Rather than returning the drive I ordered a MASSCOOL UHB-2221 enclosure (Newegg Part # N82E16817388028) which can accomodate 12.5mm drives. It's USB-only, but cheap and constructed well.

Rating: 4/5Good Enough Drive
Pros: This drive performs quickly and is about on par in performance with other laptop drives I have had in the past, but honestly who buys a 1TB drive expecting stellar performance. Pair this with a solid state and you have yourself a pretty impressive storage solution. Massive size, both in data and the physical size of the drive (i guess not really a pro but they do go together)
Cons: This drive is big. Like really big. I had to take an aluminum plate out of my laptop case to allow it to fit. It is at least 50% higher than an average 2.5" drive. Now that the plate is out, i'm not sure what it's purpose is. Perhaps to sheild expresscard slot devices from any forces on the hard drive and vice versa. (on my inspiron 1520 the expresscard slot and primary hard drive bay are stacked very closely)
This drive is also noisy. Quite a bit louder than a segate 7200 rpm 16mb cache 500gb drive that i have, so essentially you trade speed for storage with this drive.
Other Thoughts: If this drive came with a ssd cache partition or some other feature I could forgive the huge size but honeslty, it's a bit ridiculous that there are not huge disclaimers about this.

Rating: 5/5too tall for my laptops
Pros: got here double quick. good price. immediate exchange by newegg when I described my problem. the 9.5 mm version (WD10JPVT) is 20 bucks more expensive, but it does fit.
Cons: 12.5 mm high. this should be a HUGE warning all over the sales material. this is being sold as a laptop drive, and it simply will not fit into the vast majority of laptops.
Other Thoughts: bad marketing. good product, just not in laptops.

Rating: 2/5Too slow
Pros: It's the most storage you can get in a 2.5" laptop drive at the moment.
Cons: It's just too slow. In particular, it's slow enough that I occasionally run into stuttering problems when watching HD video, which is something that never happened with my older 500 GB 5400rpm hard drive. I can't wait for someone to finally release a 7200 rpm 1 TB hard drive, but I have no idea when that might happen. The problem is serious enough that I'm considering downgrading to a 750 GB 7200 rpm hard drive. :\

Rating: 1/5TOO BIG
Pros: From a reputable company that stands behind their product.
Cons: Way to big to fit in a dell inspiron 1525. about 1/8'th of an inch to tall
Other Thoughts: will order a different drive from same company but with different height. Dell didn't make the specs easier to find and i couldn't find them. Ordered with windows 7 disk, hope i can return just the hard drive. will call new egg in the morning.

Rating: 2/5Large Drive- Not so reliable
Pros: Large drive, despite that it will fit in a mac book pro 17"- WD's RMA service is also quite snappy.
Cons: Died around 6 months of use- started going really slow then failed WD diagnostics when I ran them.
That is not to detract from the fact that WD did stand behind their product (as always) and send me a new drive through their RMA service. (Now on the shelf for a mini-itx computer)
Other Thoughts: I would suggest you used a black label WD product for any laptop they seem to fail a lot less than the blue label products.
They (Black Label) also have integrated accelerometers to park the heads under motion.... something any laptop drive should have.... period. (I dont think this drive was taking park commands form apples S.M.S.- could very well be what killed the drive with the abuse my mac gets)

Rating: 1/5Careful - 12.5 mm Does not Fit
Pros: Huge space
Cons: If your not careful, you might get mad the fact you thought a laptop hard drive would fit but no the 12.5 mm height or tall side is too big for laptops.
Other Thoughts: I did not pay attention to the dimensions since it said laptop. There is a newer model which is more expensive so be careful

Rating: 1/5Too big to fit in laptop
Pros: Im sure it would work great if I could fit it in the laptop.
Cons: Newegg sent the wrong drive the first time, we rush and 2nd day aired the correct drive and upon arrival we discovered it was too thick to fit into the laptop. (after 7 hours of cloning) You would think they would mention this in the details.
Other Thoughts: This is a Dell Studio 1555, a pretty common laptop.

Rating: 3/5Dissapointed
Pros: If you are looking for more space, then I would recommend this drive. I have had this drive for over a year know and still squeezing files into it... i just recently archived all my old data to my server freeing up some space for some up and coming projects...
Cons: With mainly working with video editing, rendering, and Photoshop manipulation (with mid-heavy game-play on my breaks) i found this drive to be, not laggy, but sluggish... comparing it to my original (600Gb 5400rpm that i upgraded from). although knowingly i was dropping down to 5200rpm with this 1Tb i did not expect to see for feel such a drastic drop in performance... maybe it is because this drive is almost 2 times as big as my original that the 200rpm difference is noticed so vividly...
also being this drive is 1T it it has a thick body... i was able to squeeze it into my Sony VPCF126FM with having to machine my own bracket for it... so keep that in mind if you don't have much space in your drive bay on your laptop already... i don't think this drive will fit into most PCs...
Other Thoughts: i gave this drive 3/4 when really it should deserve 4/5 because of its quality and reliability throughout the time i have had it in my laptop... but i am sticking with the 3/5 because i just was not that impressed with the speed and performance of the drive and ended up switching back to my old 600Gb with the space that i was able to free up...
with that said i would recommend this drive to a friend that is maybe going to use this drive as a backup or archiving files for like an external...
you know i guess it would be too much to ask for slender, fast, and large capacity all bundled up into one unit... i know it will be there one day... probably in a solid state drive too =)

Cons: failed after 1 month. getting RMA from western digital. have to trace down my backup. DON'T TRUST THIS DRIVE; always keep a backup live
