Pros: Worked flawlessly for a couple years where I would transfer 500GB to/from it on a daily basis to/from my laptop.

I now use it as an additional hard drive in my case and haven't had any problems with it, not even once.

Cons: No complaints.

Pros: Quiet when it isn't clicking

Cons: Failed after about 6 uses. We went through something like this a couple of years ago with WD drives crashing almost immediately. I guess WD has brought back this problem for grins. I'll be checking out other brands again, for the last time!

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive Make sure to partition!!

Pros: Quiet and fast enough but be sure to partition this drive. When I first installed it in the enclosure neither Linux or Win 7 could see it. I logged into Linux and went into "fdisk" and noticed that it didn't have any kind of partition defined. I installed a NTFS partition on it and formatted it. Everything's working fine now. The drive is quiet and fast enough. Remember, it's a 5400 rpm drive so it won't be as fast as most desktop drives. Because of the lower spin rate you may be able to run it off of a single usb cable instead of the double that comes with it. That'll save a USB port if you're using an external drive enclosure. For the price it's a great drive. Newegg has done it's usual excellent job!

Cons: None except for the drive not having any partitions defined. That may throw off users who don't know to look. newegg may gets returns on good drives.

Pros: I purchased this HDD as a boot drive for my 2008 aluminum macbook. It served its purpose for two years and now acts as an external HDD. Still functions perfectly after three years. Highly recommended.

Cons: If only it were 7200 RPM...

Pros: Capacity

Cons: Worked less then a year

Other Thoughts: Great, hard drive never had a problem with western digital until this drive. Worked fine for about 8 months and then bam! mechanical failure... Tried to contact WD a month ago and still waiting on a response... I guess I should have went with black.

Pros: Good Tech Support

Cons: Windows Vista won't run Windows Update after cloning to an Advanced format drive like this one. Windows 7 can have the same problem but there is suppose to be a fix for it. Don't know about Windows 8 but I would stay away from Advanced Format Drives it I were you.

Other Thoughts: Response to Manufacturer:

I have been in contact with tech support and are impressed by their helpfulness. They have offered to exchange my 500GB drive for a non-advanced format drive when they have on in stock which I will take advantage of. However, as WDC doesn't make a non-advanced format drive 2.5" drive over 500GB in capacity they have no solution for my 750GB Drives.

As far as not typical experience with this problem I find many websites where users have reported this problem. In fact Microsoft Acknowledges this problem with Windows 7 offers a fix however no fix has been made available to Vista users.

I'm not blaming WDC for the problem just think they should pressure Microsoft for a fix and advise potential customers the cloning Vista to this type drive will have a problem.

Oh and I used Acronis Alignment Tool and it said it didn't need alignment.

Pros: Can't think of any.

Pros: Inexpensive with free shipping

Cons: Defective. After 1 day of use the drive started to tick whenever I launched a new program on my laptop. Western Digital tech support advised returning it immediately as it "may fail at any moment". Wasted a whole day doing the OS install, Windows updates and program installation to find out the next day the drive was bad. Very disappointed

Other Thoughts: I expected more from Western Digital.
