5 out of 5 eggsSmoken Hot

Pros: This drive is one of the best mechanical drives on the planet. I've had for over a 2 yrs now and never had a seconds trouble out of it. Speed of a SSD

Cons: Very Fast Very reliable Not too hard on your pocket. At the time I am writing this it looks like WD has stopped making this drive and gone to a 500GB which would mean anyone with one of these drives that wants to upgrade to RAID would have to buy two drives.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, and stable

Pros: - Fast
- High Capacity
- Low Noise

Cons: - Got warm, but welcome to fast moving parts

Other Thoughts: I bought an SSD shortly before purchasing this drive. I was amazed at how similar the speeds were. The prices were about the same and this drive had over 4 times the capacity of the SSD. It's a fantastic piece of hardware if you don't want to take the plunge into the world of SSDs.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's fast for being a mechanical drive

Pros: Bought this drive to put into my son's machine. Worked so well just bought another to build my new computer with. It's the best bang for the buck drive I have found.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: Very very fast for a conventional drive. I use as a storage drive. Hasnt failed or made any wierd noises yet. Price was right

Cons: A little noisy, but not nearly enough to be annoying

Other Thoughts: Good storage drive for a gaming rig. I use it paired with a 120gb ssd boot drive.

5 out of 5 eggsPair with a good SSD

Pros: Fastest HDD out there. it is a beauty and honestly can be as good as a SSD if you are on a budget. BUT I highly recommend buying this with a solid SSD to make a good pairing. doing so keeps cost low for space and maximize use on a SSD

Cons: isnt a SSD but a strong HDD

5 out of 5 eggsDon't call it old, call it a classic

Pros: Even with the newer generation VR drives making this one expensive for the speed/capacity, it's been a great drive for someone who wants speed in a larger capacity format for cheap. You can buy multiples of this drive for the cost of a comparative capacity SSD. The drive runs cool, and is near silent. I secure erased this drive with a 7-pass algorithm with it sitting on my desk (no enclosure) and I had to listen for it before I could determine that it was indeed crunching away.

Cons: Sadly, time and tech wait for no one, and this drive is starting to show its age. It's still a great HDD for a budget minded gamer who doesn't want to jump into SSD's yet, but unless Western Digital makes changes to the VR drives such as a hybrid drive, the day of the raptor being the best HDD may be coming soon,

Other Thoughts: I've owned two of the 150GB variants, this drive, and two if the 1TB models. Among them I have right at 100,000 hours of operational time, and there hasn't been a single problem yet. This is why when it comes to hard drives, I buy nothing but Western Digital.
