Pros: This HDD is about 2 years old now. I purchased it in 2013, and threw it into a new rig. It's sole purpose is for my Operating system. It was very fast as was advertised over the first year, and lived up to all of my expectations.

Cons: In this second year, the HDD has been getting slower and slower and there is a nice long wait period for my desktop to appear when powering on now. Granted, I download a lot, quite often, and then delete off the hard drive once things are moved to my other drives (I download a lot of mods for games that I have). But normal rewriting of files shouldn't bog the card down this much after 2 years of use, especially due to the fact that I keep good maintenance with a few disk cleanup utilities.

Other Thoughts: Nice and fast at first, but does not stay constant over time. Instead of buying this, just go ahead and buy yourself a solid state instead. You'll be doing yourself a favor in the long run.

Cons: After a little over a year the drive is bad. Smart errors and is not bootable. My problem is not with the drive! Drives fail I understand that and have had good luck with the velociraptor drives. It is the customer service from Western digital. The drive is under warranty but they do not have them in stock. They manufacture these drives! How can they be out of stock? Also frustrating is that they cant tell me when the drives will be in stock. I paid for advanced replacement and expedited shipping as well because I need it to restore my work computer. I even offered to purchase a bigger replacement drive if they could ship it faster (at a reduced price of course) and was told they cant do that either. On my next hard drive purchase I will be looking hard at other drive manufacturers.

Pros: Still one of the fastest mechanical storage solutions.

Other Thoughts: Nothing got hit harder by the advent of SSD than the upper end of the HDD market. The Raptor is a terrific device, but can't be seriously considered on a price/performance basis anymore.

You're only buying this as a 1:1 replacement for a failed device. Or maybe you're contractually obligated to use a specific drive. Or your'e an HDD freak. Or you expect to do petabytes of writes to one device and don't need SDD performance.

Other Thoughts: Even though it died after a few years (bad luck, I suppose), the 5 years warranty covers it no problem.

Cons: I never had any luck with WD products. They never lasted, and always had short life spans. I thought all that changed, and WD improved over the years. Boy was I wrong! I purchased this Velocraptor on 11/09/2012 from Newegg for the speed and the long 5 year warranty. This hard drive took a dump within the first year after install. Windows 8 Pro did all the installing, and it work fine for about 6 months. Then it found bad sectors. I managed to repair the bad sectors, but the drive never performed flawlessly since. Just last week the drive took its final stand and died. I have built many systems, and only WD products die, prematurely. This is the last straw. I will never ever ever buy another WD hard drive again. They simple don't last. The warranty on this particular model is 5 years. It didn't even see 2 years. I will RMA the hard drive, but going forward it's Seagate, Samsung, or Toshiba for me. To bad MAXTOR isn't still around. They made some of the most durable HD out there in my opinion. Real workhorses, never died. Outlasted my computer.

Pros: I've had this drive for a year and a half now and I've beat the absolute you know what out of it. Multiple OS installs, corrupt OS installs, Windows 8, constant formatting, and taxing usage has not done anything to this drive. It still runs like a charm and at the same as when I bought it.

Cons: None whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: 10K speeds make this a great workstation and gaming drive. That's what I've been using it for the past 1 1/2 years and it's been great.

Pros: Great when it works. Perfect for RAIDing on a file server.

Cons: Seagate always seems to outlast Western Digital in Hard Drive life. Like other WD drives, this one did not last as long as it could have.

Pros: not only does it have alot of space but is also very fast.

Cons: when being used its noisy. i have a quiet pc and this makes some wierd noise sometimes and its pretty annoying but honestly it doesn't bother me much.
