1 out of 5 eggsNon-Functional

Pros: 640GB Just what I needed.
Great price.

Cons: See other

Other Thoughts: Got this drive to do a system rebuild for a customer. After the rebuild, I went to install(reinstall system to factory settings). Got an error of insufficient space for install.
So I put this on a hard drive dock and get a message of 0MB free space out of 0MB total space. Can not format a disk with no space. So I had to pull a drive from another system to get my customers system back up and running..kind of a waste.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Customer Service

Pros: Cheap Refurbished Drive.

Cons: When I first received the drive everything seemed to be ok, partitioned setup windows and everything worked great. About 4 months later (right after the warranty expired) is when all the problems started to crop up, bad boot disk sectors corrupted data etc. Called customer service and explained the situation, and they said I need to run their Data Lifeguard Tool. I then explained again what the problem is and they referred me to their Customer Loyalty Program. I would highly recommend staying away from refurbished drives, because of the terrible customer service and short warranty span, if anything happens after 90 days theres nothing they will do for you.

Other Thoughts: A shame, I've been buying WD hard drives for almost 20 years now only to find out they outsource customer support to another country (India). I usually stop buying products from companies who do that. Guess its time to go with another hard drive company.

5 out of 5 eggsbought and forgot about it

Pros: works great. never had any problems. Installed and never thought anymore about it. seems faster than my internal 1 T drive that came with my computer. was reviewing my past orders today and realized I had never came back to give my review of this purchase.

Cons: none so far and don't expect any!!!

Other Thoughts: I see it has been discontinued, but if they had more I would buy again.
Perfect size drive for any build, for either OS, data or both.

5 out of 5 eggsZippy

Pros: Set up 4x 640gb sata II in a raid 5 setup, going super fast and have lots of space. I love it, wont trust anything else besides western digital. Good quality and i believe only 2 platter.
Paid 29/each.
Ran a full disc check when i got them because they were recert, both passed 100%

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: Would have gotten 4x sata III for raid 5 if my board supported 4 of them.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: None

Cons: Went bad with 150 reallocated sectors after 2 weeks of use.

Other Thoughts: How can they sell drives like this? I know they are re-certified, but they don't even work!

4 out of 5 eggsDecent for the price

Pros: Cheap, I got mine for $30 with a one year exchange warranty (just in case)
Works okay, see cons
Decent speeds
Great if you are buying for storage

Cons: I have a 1tb green WD HDD as my primary drive, so I got this to replace it as the primary drive because it is 7200rpm vs 5400rpm of the green drive. So I installed windows and I had trouble reading, writing, and transferring files between the two drives, so I booted up the green one (which still had everything on it) and everything was fine: transferring, reading, writing.

Other Thoughts: I probably would have gave the drive 3 eggs, since there is no 3.5, but for the price and since it does what I (now) need it to do I rounded it up.
Also the boot speeds were the same between the two drives, I do no know what is up with that, but whatever. (I did try reinstalling windows to no avail, and I do not think that it was my windows disc, it worked on another computer.)

2 out of 5 eggs50% might not be recertified?

Pros: Price was very reasonable.
Big enough to run th OS with room to spare.
The drives that run were very quiet.
I bought 4, and they were manufactured very recently. All close to the same time.

Cons: Two of the 4 I bought had problems.
One would not spin up. A 2nd drive would not format fully, nor pass scandisk. It simply went on forever, and finally errored out with too many errors

Other Thoughts: Believe it or not, the 2 bad drives had different problems, so by removing the circuit board of one, and installing it on the second, I actually fixed the one that would not spin up. Now I have one very bad drive that won't spin, and if it did, It would be full of errors. By the way, there are no wires to disconnect. Only 5 torx screws to remove.

4 out of 5 eggspretty good for the $$

Pros: this referb drive has lots of space for a small price. seems fairly quiet and operates smoothly with win 7-64.

i had one episode with it and had to use WD tools to get it back up. the good thing is WD tools are pretty good.

Cons: only 16mb, so it ain't speedy. it is a better drive than the 500gb WD drive i bought last year i think. time will tell.

there are bigger and faster drives for close to the same price-

Other Thoughts: if you look around you'll see drives failing everywhere for a number or reasons.

it is good to have a few inexpensive spares!

Pros: Recertified and inexpensive. Only $29.99. Hope it last a few years. Loaded operating system on it with zero problems. Gonna get a few more for spares.

Cons: none

3 out of 5 eggsOne DOA

Pros: Price. Capacity. Bought 2 to replace a 74GB Raptor RAID0. Average 170MB/s in RAID0.

Cons: One arrived DOA.

Other Thoughts: Considering getting two 64MB cache drives for RAID0 and using these for RAID1 for backup. . Would consider using Refurb drives in the future when on a tight budget. Not overly surprised or dissuaded by the DOA. The replacement has worked flawlessly so far!
