Pros: This hard drive has a very large capacity for the price (around $.05 a GB) which makes it perfect for the budget HTPC/DVR. This drive has very sturdy construction and is virtually silent.

Pros: I can copy from my Intel 520 SSD on a 6GB/s Intel controller to these drives connected to a 3Gb/s Marvell controller (paired as a Win7 RAID1 - dynamic disks). Large video files transfer at a sustained 1Gb/s.
A small file transfers much faster than 1Gb/s.
*as a note...I did not modify the idle time (no wdidle used).

Cons: Not really a con but.....
It appears that these physical drives can do sustained 1Gb/s even though the SATA interface might be able to handle 3Gb/s burst until the drive cache is full. I am using an i7-3770 Ivy CPU so I don't suspect noticeable delay in using Win7 to do my RAID1.
These drives indicate a two-year warranty; my older 1TB WD Green drive had a three-year warranty but I had to use it after 18 months so maybe I will get these replaced before the two-year deadline anyway.

Pros: Worked fine for a couple weeks and then died. Cyclic Redundancy Check error in Disk Manager, unable to initialize, and also wouldn't show up in BIOS when attached directly.

Cons: Broke after two weeks of use.

Other Thoughts: Awaiting a replacement. Didn't rate as one egg because all hard drives die. Will revise if replacement is DOA.

Pros: Power efficient with typical speeds. Haven't had problems with Western Digital as a Brand.

Cons: Ridiculous price. Yes I know about the floods but still seemed to be a bit inflated.

Other Thoughts: Like the Law of averages everyone gets a bad drive once in a while. I found that buying the retail version of the product I have yet to receive a bad drive. Might be superstitious but it works for me. I like the brand and would recommend.

Pros: Wow, I order friday morning and come monday I didn't even get the shipping info, yet its already on my doorsteps! (I ordered 3 via normal ups ground) Newegg rocks! Wow!
Also, I've been buying a TON of things from newegg lately for my new rig, literally thousands of dollars worth of parts, yet none of them has come in defective. In fact, I've not had a defective item from newegg since I started ordering from NEgg 8+ years ago. Even my 4 yo computer--all parts from newegg is still going strong!(Keeps fingers crossed). Well, there was this one time I got ripped off and NEgg kinda told me to go screw myself...but all is good as I got my money back. It wasn't NEggs fault though, just a shady vendor which I made a note never to buy from ever again.

After hearing so many horror stories about these drives, I decided to get them anyway, as these have the least bad reviews out there. With that said, I lucked out again. All 3 drives were auto-detected, and I formatted them no proble

Cons: I don't have enough power/sata ports for these so I had to get converters and controllers. Nobodys fault but mine, as I already have 2 optical drives, 1 ssd, and 5 internal hdds filling up my case.

Formatting is slow, but its expected because these babies have a monstrous capacity.

Other Thoughts: I've had nothing but a long string good luck from newegg lately. I hope it continues.
