  • newegg Massive Capacity, High Performance With a combination of 64 MB cache, dual processors and dual stage actuation (2 TB only), WD RE4 drives deliver up to 2 TB's of cavernous capacity and lightning-fast performance in demanding server and storage applications.
  • newegg Thermal Extended Burn-in Test Each WD RE4 drive is put through extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling to ensure reliable operation.
  • newegg High Reliability Features Enhanced RAFF technology includes sophisticated electronics to monitor the drive and correct both linear and rotational vibration in real time, resulting in a significant performance improvement in high vibration environments. Multi-axis shock sensor automatically detects the subtlest shock events and compensates to protect the data. RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER) prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives.
  • newegg StableTrac The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations.
  • newegg NoTouch Ramp Load Technology The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media, as well as better drive protection in transit.
  • newegg IntelliSeek Technology WD’s IntelliSeek technology proactively calculates an optimum seek speed to eliminate hasty movement of the actuator, resulting in lower power consumption, noise and vibration.

1 out of 5 eggsOk while it worked

Pros: From its description it seemed like what I wanted: a relatively small, reliable, mid-performace system drive.

Cons: Installed mid August 2013, Failed March 8, 2014 under less than moderate use.

Other Thoughts: It is hard to believe this is an enterprise drive. It is also hard to believe that WD lists Velociraptors as enterprise drives. I gave up on their reliability after buying four of them. Not worth returning, relacing with Seagate

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD's

Pros: Perfect speeds in raid-0 for gaming which was their main use and internet nothing more, couldn't ask for more when it came to speed

Cons: Space. In raid-0 having 500gbs at the time i bought these was a decent amount but i ran out of room quick so now im going to raptor 500gbs in 0 for 1k which im sure will run out as well

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: This drive has been running in a Win server 2008r2 for 2 years 24/7. Using it as a system drive. This drive has had zero issues.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Wish all drives I bought were this good. Will be happy if it makes it the full 5 years before replacing all hard drives as I usually do. This drive is installed along with 4 1tb RE4's that are all the same age. All the 1tb drives are doing just as good. I would by these again with out thinking twice.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive for a great price

Pros: Solid performance, very affoardable cost per gigabyte.

Cons: None!

Other Thoughts: Purchased 2 for mirrored RAID configuration in a barebones server for a SQL database in a small 5 user workgroup. System is running solid with quick boot time. All SMART & disk diagnostics report no errors. Very happy with these!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for now

Pros: Replaced dead Seagate drive in our Buffalot TERAStation. Works like it's supposed to for now.

Cons: None right now

Other Thoughts: We'll see how long it lasts, I haven't had much longevity with SATA drives in our NAS

4 out of 5 eggs4 HDD Raid 0

Pros: 1) Large amount of space compare to SSD.
2) 64 MB Cache
3) Rounds pretty quiet when on, but does a screech when shutdown.
4) very high rpm.
5) iron packs that throw in to keep it air tight is no longer place next to pin connector area.
6) 4 drives raid gave me 500 mb read and write speed. = D

Cons: 1) Loud screech when shut off PC. not sure if drives are going bad or what. only happens when turning off PC.
2) had to reinstall my OS wasn't able to clone my drive = (
3) Western Digital arconis software wouldn't let me clone my sea gate drive to my new western drive seems they only prefer all WD only.

Other Thoughts: it makes loud bag sound when shutting off my pc for some reason. it only happens when i place the pc in shutdown. the raid is great when you working on cs6 pushing out a video encoding is a lot faster then my old drive in ide setup. 500 mb read and write helps a lot when working on youtube videos. = D

3 out of 5 eggs250gb Drive

Pros: Works as expected

Cons: I bought 4 of these drives together and put them in a light duty RAID 10 configuration. 1 drive failed in the first 6 months. Replaced the bad drive 4 months ago and have not had any more problems (yet).
