  • newegg Massive Capacity, High Performance With a combination of 64 MB cache, dual processors and dual stage actuation (2 TB only), WD RE4 drives deliver up to 2 TB's of cavernous capacity and lightning-fast performance in demanding server and storage applications.
  • newegg Thermal Extended Burn-in Test Each WD RE4 drive is put through extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling to ensure reliable operation.
  • newegg High Reliability Features Enhanced RAFF technology includes sophisticated electronics to monitor the drive and correct both linear and rotational vibration in real time, resulting in a significant performance improvement in high vibration environments. Multi-axis shock sensor automatically detects the subtlest shock events and compensates to protect the data. RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER) prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives.
  • newegg StableTrac The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations.
  • newegg NoTouch Ramp Load Technology The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media, as well as better drive protection in transit.
  • newegg IntelliSeek Technology WD’s IntelliSeek technology proactively calculates an optimum seek speed to eliminate hasty movement of the actuator, resulting in lower power consumption, noise and vibration.

2 out of 5 eggsNot really 5-year warranty

Pros: If received from vendor who cares about product and way it is being shipped out to customer, it is very good, reliable hard drive, I used those for long time.

Cons: Providing IT services for 25 years I was shocked after I received this item. Shipped via USPS in envelope with very little protective material... After I registered this hard drive with Western Digital it gave me 3 years of warranty, not 5 as stated in item description. It appears to be old overstock sold by company which distributes potatoes too.

5 out of 5 eggsIts how you handle the problems

Pros: Originally ordered 3 HDD to replace some failing RAID5 drives in my Dell Server. After ordering them I emailed Tech Experts to discuss expedited shipping as it wasn't offered in the order processing and I needed them quickly. I got a call from Shawn who told me that they specialize in hard to get or outdated HDD's and that it wasn't possible to get mine quickly as they would have to obtain them first and then have them shipped to me. Shawn politely agreed to cancel the order if I could find what I needed quicker on the Newegg site, which I did. Shawn kept in very good contact with me and credited 2 of 3 HDD that day and canceled the order.

Cons: Although the order was never even picked to ship, Shawn had to issue RMA's due to Newegg's ordering process, which was both a pain to Tech Experts and to me. She then had to issue credits for the drives and either missed one or the system didn't get it correctly. Not sure why she had to enter 3 separate RMA's and 3 separate credits, come on Newegg, you should make this whole process easier, quicker and simpler. Since 1 credit was missed it didn't get it on my credit card statement and had to Contact Shawn again. She was very quick and issued a credit, apologized profusely for it.

Other Thoughts: As I said, it's all in how you deal with the customer, Shawn and Tech Experts, while not shipping me any product displayed excellent customer service. They handled the problem quickly, courteously, and didn't give me a hard time or anything. Thanks Tech Experts and Shawn!

5 out of 5 eggs4x RAID0 WD RE4 1TB

Pros: Enterprise grade, warranty, meant to be used in high volume data situations, RAID Arrays, Ideal for Servers etc..., Great for media producers, editors etc..
5 Year warranty
RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER)

Cons: Heat
latency vs SSD

Other Thoughts: I have 4 of these drives in a RAID0 configuration and they've been working flawlessly. I have had numerous other problems with this workstation but these drives are solid. I just had a motherboard go out on this machine and I have complete confidence in picking up right where I left off when they see their new Motherboard. I will definitely buy more of these

5 out of 5 eggsLasts a long time

Pros: This is a well constructed drive that has lasted without issue, for three years and counting.

Cons: If anything, it's only a 1Tb drive, but it was not a con back when I bought it.

Other Thoughts: The only reason why I'm planning to replace it now, is because I'm running out of room. So, I'm stepping up to a 3Tb model, and using this drive, plus another 1Tb drive from the same manufacturer, as a backup drive, until I get another 3Tb drive to replace them.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Quality and Service

Pros: Very good quality enterprise drive sure to last many years.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Solid state drives are very fast, but it will be quite awhile before they are cost competitive with quality, reliable, fast drives like these. The service was also fast and well packaged.

Pros: Western Digital produces some of the best hard drives for your money, especially when buying the "Black" or "Red" label.

Cons: Considering the price point, there are no real cons for a mechanical drive of this quality.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent HDD

Pros: Reliable, works well with our NAS, speeds as advertised

Cons: runs a little warmer and is somewhat noisy compared to some other drives

Other Thoughts: We have six of these drives total the oldest ones running for close to 4 years now almost 24/7 in our NAS. No issues what so ever even after power outages. SMART reporting allows us to keep an eye on health of drives. Transfer speeds are 60-70MBs in our setup. Good reliable drive.
