1 out of 5 eggsEnd of the line for WD

Pros: Small, quiet

Cons: First one was DOA. Second one had a sketchy USB cable. Third one had a USB port that was broken internally.
Unreliable piece of junk, basically, and before I gave up, it never ran at USB 2.0 speeds.

Other Thoughts: I've bought WD drives pretty much since the beginning of time and never thought twice about picking up this and the 1Gb version. Big mistake. There's been a change in culture at WD and these SE drives show it. They're crapware built down to a WalMart price. WD's support is appalling now too. They don't even bother hiring people that can speak English at their Indian call centre. I gave up and junked both this and the 1Gb drive in the end - it was easier than trying to get WD to replace them.
The problems: 90% of the time none of my PCs would recognise them when plugged in. The 10% of the time they did register, after 5 or 6 minutes I'd get a delayed write failure, followed by a "USB device connected to this machine has failed" error. The ultra-short micro USB cord is a cheap 2c chinese item that breaks as soon as you touch it, and the drive connector seems to be held on to the PCB by willpower alone. Appaling products, appalling support. These two drives broke my allegiance to WD.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Little drive

Pros: Small portable drive for backing up and moving files to a new computer. worked great.

Cons: short USB cable.

Other Thoughts: Purchased as new- a little disapointed that New Egg sent me a used drive that was obviously a "re-pack". If I wanted a used drive I would have ordered one. Good thing this was not a gift.

2 out of 5 eggsDead after 9 months

Pros: Device worked great out of the box. Backed up many a device or move files to other devices.

Cons: Died after 9 months. Wasn't overly used, prob 3-4 times a month. When I needed it, it wouldn't boot up. Tried on several different computers and same result. Would power, would spin but system wouldn't recognize it.

Other Thoughts: RMA process was simple but wished I didn't have to replace.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks for me

Pros: created a fat32 partition to back up info from my 60gb PS3 hard drive and transfer to an upgraded drive. works like a charm. Used the remaining space to back up all my other media files from my pc.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: glad i got this before the price of hard drives doubled. I believe a factory in SE Asia got hit with a natural disaster and that severly disrupted production, hence supply and demand kicking in.

1 out of 5 eggsused, but sold as new

Pros: drive works, but

Cons: The retail box seal was cut when I got it. Ignoring that sign, I opened and found the drive has already been used before. The drive was reformatted as a FAT32, when the box & overview stated it was in a NTFS partition. Its not a big deal, but newegg sent me a open-box product at full retail. Thats embarrassing. I expected better from such a stellar company. Micro USB connection is pretty loose as well. Its like someone didn't trust the micro USB to be well connected and they kept jamming the cord to make sure it fit.

Other Thoughts: Micro USB is a let-down. It may be small, but its a little too flimsy for my taste.

4 out of 5 eggsNice and Portable, but Not Rugged

Pros: Price was the selling point, and although it may not be rugged, the portability of the device and USB3 are great features to have.

Cons: I use this drive as part of my portable DJ rig, and have noticed that the USB connection has started to jiggle around. About a week ago, my hard drive took a 2 foot fall onto a tile floor, and completely broke apart into it's components. Although I was able to snap it together pretty quickly and it still works, the case did crack, and from looking at the internal structure, I can tell you that the USB connection is not well supported.

Other Thoughts: Like I said in my cons, it did survive a fall, but it is made to survive impacts, I highly recommend putting them in a well padded memory foam case.
