3 out of 5 eggsWorks - no errors!

Pros: Drive was very clean and Hard Disk Sentinel says it has no errors and projects its life as another year plus.

Cons: I don't trust this drive with important data. Hard Disk Sentinel reports on time of 1368 days 4 hours and 99 start/stops. I believe it was in server service and retired because near end of its life.

Other Thoughts: I have purchased refurb WD drives from newegg.com with far less hours than this one and had no problems with them. I guess it is a gamble with any electronic equipment. Had I not had Hard Drive Sentinel, I would have had no doubts about this one as it was sealed in an anti static envelope and as clean as any new drive I have ever had. I would probably gamble again if I had need for a drive.

5 out of 5 eggsPoeple need to stop using them as PC drives

Pros: TLER - Time Limited Error Correction

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: People need to stop buying these for PC single drive or other non-RAID usage. These "RE" drives have a firmware optimized for RAID usage. They will report a read error sooner (TLER) expecting a battery backed RAID controller on top to either reconstruct the failed read from other RAID members or issue another read operation. The number of people here apparently using them in single drive or other non-RAID setups and then reporting failure is mind boggling. Please folks, do some homework. In a server with a RAID controller, you want the drive to report a raw read error quick instead of the drive doing lengthy recovery attempts. That is what these drives do.

I have a total of 10 of these drives from multiple sources (including Newegg) working 24x7 in refurbished Dell PowerEdge servers attached to PERC 6i controllers. That is the way they were designed to be used and that way they work fine.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Decent price for WD black,

Cons: Noisy, 3gbs, slower than would like.

Get something 6+ if you have a board to support it.

Other Thoughts: static mount may reduce noise

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Hard Drive

Pros: Purchase this item to install in my HP P2 desktop. This hard drive runs very smooth and quiet. This is great to use in a music production studio, as a condenser microphone couldn't pick up any noise from it as it would in a noisy hard drive system.

Cons: Haven't found anything bad about it yet!

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after one year

Pros: At the time of purchase I thought the brand and price were good, that was early 2014, prices have changed.

Cons: Drive was slightly louder than many of my other drives, but this didn't matter once my system stopped recognizing the drive altogether after about a year.
Of course I troubleshot, the drive failed, all data lost. The extended warranty I purchased had just ran out on top of all this.

Other Thoughts: I know it was a refurb. but Iv owned plenty over the years, with my experience if something was going to go wrong it would do it fairly quickly, but not this time. There are too many quality drives at competitive prices to deal with this, don't waste your money on this one.

5 out of 5 eggsPrecisely as expected.

Pros: * Enterprise level HDD
* Reasonable price for refurbished
* Most likely a "pull" from an old server
* Very well packaged

Cons: * None

Other Thoughts: These are DELL OEM drives that have most likely been pulled from old servers. This is evident from the facts that they have 30,000+ hours on the clock with only about 30 power cycles, so they have been running 24/7. Very typical for this type of drive. I bought two of them and they both have zero raw_read_error_rate and zero reallocated_sector_ct, so they look fine to me.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Low Price
No Bad Sectors

Cons: None. The HD is as advertised.

Other Thoughts: Added this HD to a Windows Server 2012E machine at the office for client backups six months ago. No issues.
