Features

Features
Desktop-class performance - With 7200 RPM spin speed, 16 MB cache, and capacities up to 750 GB, these drives enable you to have the best of both worlds: the capacity and performance of a desktop PC with the convenience and portability of a notebook.

Massive capacity - WD's 750 GB 2.5-inch drives offer huge capacity for space-hungry operating systems with plenty of room left over for photos, music, and video.

Low power consumption - With technologies like IntelliSeek which calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption and SecurePark which reduces power by parking the heads during low power
idle mode, this drive delivers 5400 RPM equivalent power consumption in a
7200 RPM drive.

Quiet - In a notebook drive, silence is golden.

WD's exclusive WhisperDrive
combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest
2.5-inch hard drives on the market.

Advanced Format (AF) - Technology being adopted by WD and other drive manufacturers as one of multiple ways to continue growing hard drive capacities. AF is a more efficient media format that enables increased
areal densities.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Almost silent, considering this is a HDD, I was switching back from an SSD giving Microsoft the excuse my SSD was what was causing problems with my Windows 8 Pro, it wasn't. But, now I have this sitting in my Desktop, while it doesn't look "right" with the rest of the 3.5" drives, it's a large capacity and as silent as the rest of the system.

Cons: None that I can think/see.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to pretty much prove Microsoft wrong (Very easy to do), I was getting several crashes with Windows 8 Pro, so I bought a new Disk, HDD and installed it fresh, problems started again. They then stated it was a hardware issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD

Pros: Quiet, Fast, 5-year Warranty, Fair Price.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I always buy HDDs that have 5-year warranties. One of the most hurtful things that could happen is a drive failure. I have never had a HDD with a 5-year warranty fail, while I have had HDDs with 1-2 year warranties fail.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Fast drive with plenty of space.

Cons: Got an okay deal at 69 buckaros.

Other Thoughts: It really does make a huge difference compared to my stock laptop 5400rpm driver. And while an SSD is a lot better, i wouldn't trade out my storage space for one.

5 out of 5 eggsWD Black so far so good

Pros: Works as an external storage drive. I can't hear it unless it is next to my ear. Seemingly low vibration very portable and light weight. Doesn't get too hot in aluminum enclosure. Packaged nicely to prevent damage during shipping.

Cons: Time will tell.

Other Thoughts: I purchased two of the Western Digital Scorpio Black WD7500BPKT series HD and paired the drives up with the Nexstar CX USB 2.0 powered enclosure. It works out to about a dollar for 10 GB. Keeping data organized, portable, and accessible is for this price seems like a pretty good deal.

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: Solid, designed for more use than the WD Greens/Blues and standard 2.5" drives.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: It doesn't come formatted, so be prepared to format it. I am using it in a "Vantec NexStar CX SuperSpeed 2.5" SATA to USB 3.0 (NST-200S3-BK )" external enclosure. I get typical 7200RPM performance through USB 3.0.

I have not used it heavily after the initial stability texts and formatting.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked for a while

Pros: This HDD worked great at first. It did run a little hot but not enough to worry me.

Cons: In the last few weeks the drive has started to make a random grinding noise. Sometimes it makes the noise a couple of times a day and other times I won't hear it for a week or so. This could be a one-off problem or it could be endemic to the line. A sample of one is not enough to say. WD does have a good rep and I've used their products for decades. Anyone can make a rare lemon.

I am in the process of trying to warranty replace it now. But that will be more of a Newegg problem than a product problem. Hopefully I can replace it before I lose my data.

Pros: Installed OSX without a hitch in a friend's Macbook. Has been used heavily every day for more than a year. Has a better response time than the original drive.
