5 out of 5 eggsGreat Media Drive

Pros: As a "green" drive, this device is quiet, generates very little heat, and consumes about 5 watts. I have a pair of 3TB and a single 1TB in my DVR computer.

Cons: Mine have been working flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: Throughput is quit fast even if seek times and spinup times from sleep aren't record setting. With the $$$ saved on the low cost of WD Green drives, I bought a small SSD for my main system disk.

1 out of 5 eggsWD Case Number-050713-6958474

Pros: have submited the problem to WD to show them how new egg is shipping out the hard drives and why there is such a large DOA rate on all of them.

Cons: not much

1 out of 5 eggsnew egg rma

Pros: i ordered 3 3t greens from new egg. they arrived so poorly package they they were sliding back and forth in the box. not the way that WD states as to how they are to be shipped.
the box was dented and the internal box was dented also. have photos. one did not spin up and was DOA.
there was no dent on it.
now there is and i do not get a replacement.

Cons: where to start. after been a great customer for the last 8 years they pull this stunt.
i did take photos and got the serial number of the drive that i sent back. i would not be surprised if it is not the same one.

Other Thoughts: if you recive any package that is dented from new egg. STOP get your video camera out and video type the un-boxing of your item.
then video film the start up and the state it is when you box it back up.

5 out of 5 eggsOld math means it's not a full 3TB

Pros: This drive is big - great size for a ssd secondary drive. It'll hold what you want it to.

Cons: I think I speak for everyone when I say that they need to update the math for drives. Buying a 3TB drive doesn't mean you'll get 3TB. Of course, with drive size being in base 2 as opposed to 10, companies are allowed to say it's 3TB even though you can't hope to get the full 3tb

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I do video editing and I need a place to store my videos. I use these for networking. I have five of them and I'm very happy with them I did not buy them for this speed adjust for raw footage. I am impressed with the speed though in my applications they work just great I can even stream video from these drives through my network without any drag or delay. If you're looking for some storage with a decent speed for accessing I would recommend these.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggsmixed review

Pros: quiet and plenty fast for me. in my opinion it's a good value for the $$$

Cons: it could probably happen to any drive, but the first one I received worked great--until it didn't. the drive would be fine for a few days or hours, and then suddenly lose it's formatting! I'm glad I was able to diagnose the problem before I put important data on it. it's scary to have a backup drive that is not trustworthy!!! Don't they test drives before they leave the factory for this kind of issue?

Other Thoughts: newegg was very good about the RMA, my replacement drive has had no problems... yet.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Green, as this is not the typical experience with the product.
We are very sorry to hear that your drive did not function so soon after it was delivered. Western Digital does rigorously test and verify all of our drives, prior to shipping, with burn-in and diagnostic tests. As a troubleshooting step, we recommend running either our WINDLG diagnostics software or Macs built-in Disk Utility to check your drives health.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drives

Pros: Good drives. Work well with no problems.

Cons: No problems at all. Still running fine 24x7 after two months.

Other Thoughts: My earlier review was for an external drive-cloning docking station, not the 3 TB Western Digital drives. I'm very sorry for giving the bad review for the dock to the drives themselves! Did I mention that I'm an idiot?

3 out of 5 eggsTook 8 to get 5 good ones

Pros: If you get a good one out of the box it will probably last until 4TB drives are cheap enough that you will want to replace it. Seems to have a pretty decent speed.

Cons: First I bought 5 and 2 were bad. One would spin up for a few seconds and shut down. The other one started to work but before I could format it Windows blue screened. When I rebooted it the bios did not see it. I tried it in my hot swap bay and I blue screened again. Of the 2 replacements 1 was bad. Shut down after a few seconds just like one of the first ones.

Other Thoughts: I bought another 5 of this model several months ago and all 5 were good. One showed a few reallocated sectors a couple of weeks ago. I retired it to lower priority backups. It has not showed any more bad sectors since so there probably is no real risk of failure. My experience with hard drives is if they are not DOA and make it through a couple HDSentinel surface tests they will last for years. I would not buy a hard drive from anywhere but NewEgg because of their good RMA policy. In a Google search about DOA hard drives most results said it was about 10%. That is about what I have experienced. I have seen some feedback blaming NewEgg shipping but I have never seen any product from them that did not have more than enough protection. Maybe the manufacturers are not as careful.

We are very sorry to hear that your drive did not function so soon after it was delivered; however, Western Digital does rigorously test and verify all of our drives, prior to shipping, with burn-in and diagnostic tests. There are many variables that can result in a failed drive, such as power outages, accidental physical damage, and internal component failure, just to name a few. 1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none

Cons: doa drive spun up with audible head collisions

Other Thoughts: newegg support once again came through for me no hassle rma.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with the WD Green, as this is not the typical experience with the product. Each of our drives is rigorously tested before leaving our warehouses to ensure that they are in good working condition. There are many variables that could amount to a drive emitting unusual sounds when powered on. To test our drives health, we have our Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows (WinDLG) utility, and Mac users can of course use Disk Utility and First Aid. 5 out of 5 eggsWorking Great

Pros: I've had this drive in my home server as a backup drive for quite some time now. It's got 6708 hours racked up of near 24/7 operation and it's still going strong. I see a lot of poor reviews, but I'm sure I've had this drive powered on for more time than a majority of others and I haven't had any issues with it.

Cons: It's only $10 cheaper now than when I bought it last May.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm happy with the drive. Still going strong after nearly 280 days of 24/7 online time.
