1 out of 5 eggshard drive won't initialize fully

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: none

Cons: I bought this drive to mirror another 3tb I already had. This one wasn't initialized and so windows promptly partitioned it to a 2tb plus 1tb. I went to WD web site, (not user friendly) and they just blamed Microsoft rather than take ownership of a product that may or may not work. I thought they would have a solution but no luck All I really want is a 3tb drive, all one partition. Now I have to return this "broken" unit. I would not recommend this drive.

5 out of 5 eggsTons of Space

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: These things work pretty nicely. I ordered two of these and both work amazingly. I was kinda scared at first because I could not figure out how to make my system recognize more than 2 tb til I changed em to GPT instead of MBR. After that it found the 2.7tb that this drive is after formatting. I'm using them inside of an HTPC, so I think these are more than sufficient to store all my movies. I've been loading it up with 3D Bluray ISO's and they haven't even made a dent in em.

Cons: I don't have any cons for these. Both of mine work great, no DOA like some people have mentioned.

3 out of 5 eggsDOA - 1 of 2 HDD

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Huge capacity, high cost performance, if it works.

Cons: 1 of 2 HDD I ordered is DOA. After badblocks reported tons of bad sectors, the HDD became offline. I reconnected it by unplug/plug in the cable, but it never came back.

Other Thoughts: I guess I was at bad luck this time. My first experience of DOA. The RMA shipping charge fully consumed the promotion discount.

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Tons of storage and a decent price. Just bought another one for extra space, first one I bought over a year ago is going strong.

Cons: A little loud but nothing my TV can't drown out

5 out of 5 eggsLots of storage

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great price, WD brand, lots of storage space

Cons: A bit loud on spin-up but quite when working. I am using this as a Time Machine network storage drive for my Macbook Pro in a Macally enclosure.

Other Thoughts: The green drive is best used as a data storage drive, not for an OS. Use them this way and a WD Green drive will serve you well.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Quiet and good on power.

Cons: I have 2 of these, and one was pretty much DOA

Other Thoughts: I had one of these drives for almost a year with no issue (still running fine today). I bought a second one and it was basically DOA which was a disappointment. Started by showing up in windows, but would give an I/O error when installing. Then after multiple cables, and SATA ports it wouldn't even show in the BIOS anymore.

1 out of 5 eggs45 days of ownership... and it's dead.

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Low cost, low power consumption, quiet. Generally speaking I have had better luck with WD than other HDD manufacturers.

Cons: I had a 3TB RAID level 5, using four 1TB WD Black drives. In an effort to simplify my life, and make it easier to migrate my data to another system, I purchased two of these 3TB WD Green drives to use in a Windows 7 software mirrored configuration. I've owned many, many WD products- only had 1 WD Green drive die on me before, so I felt confident purchasing more of them, despite the shaky reviews.

40 days in, the mirrored volume disappears from windows explorer. Disk Management shows file sync problems. S.M.A.R.T. report shows hundreds of uncorrectable errors. In other words, it's dead. (Right after the 30 day Newegg return policy, natch!)

Other Thoughts: Don't mess with Green drives, they're not worth the risk. Just get the Black drives. I've had 2 Green drives fail on me, but out of the 5 or 6 Black drives I've owned, none have failed (yet).

5 out of 5 eggsGood size for price

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Works as advertized and moderately priced

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I use these drives as redundant drive backups for off site security of thousands of photographs. One is in the computer and gets backed up every month with a second drive just like it. If this sounds like overkill, you have never lost years of photography due to a system catastrophe.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful experience

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: In theory good value for the money. I've owned a 1TB Green for 5+ years and never had an issue.

Cons: A buddy and I both ordered the 3TB drive, his kept disappearing from Windows, ran the WD diagnostic tool, found code 07 - failed read test element. Ran it again, same issue.

Mine made disturbing clicking and grinding noises as soon as the computer started to power up for post, then repeated those noises at the windows startup, before falling silent and hanging start up. Cool.

Recap: 2 drives, 2 pieces of garbage.

Other Thoughts: It's a good thing we were just using these drives as add ons, it'd be much more disappointing if we were actually depending on these drives. I have confidence in Newegg's RMA service, but I'm concerned a replacement drive will also be DOA.
