1 out of 5 eggsWorst purchase in quite awhile

Pros: failed to burn my house down

Cons: Stored some backups on the drive, shelved it, and tried to recover data after 2 years. Drive was useless, reports too many bad sectors.

This is absolutely the worst product I've encountered so far in 10 years; judging by the other reviews at least I don't feel alone.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Not much to say really. It's quiet and runs just fine. Data transfer speeds are good enough for storage which is all I really use it for. Aside from the RMA (see Cons) I've had the drive operating constantly for about 6 months and it's been great.

Cons: The first one I ordered wasn't reading the full amount of space on the drive, I think it lost somewhere around 700mb. I had to RMA it and also had to pay for shipping of the RMA which is why I've dropped an egg from the rating. Otherwise it was accepted and I was shipped another one in a timely matter. No other issues.

Other Thoughts: Great drive for the price if you're mostly just looking for a storage option that isn't being accessed 24/7.

1 out of 5 eggsWD HDD DOA

Pros: Under $90 for a 3TB is a great buy. WD HDD reputation. Systems recognized it and did the usual initializating, formatting, etc.

Cons: I consider this HDD from WD a DOA for me. Windows just would not format this HDD. I tried formatting it as a GPT and MBR, both failed. Since I planned on having this HDD as an internal 2nd drive and not a boot drive I thought the process would be a breeze. I got messages: Data error (cyclic redundancy check) and "Windows unable to format this drive..."
First install of this unit as an INTERNAL 2nd drive on my desktop with the following specs: CPU/RAM: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Watch/16GB; OS DRIVE/OS: SAMSUNG SSD EVO/WINDOWS 8.1 PRO 64-BIT "Windows unable to format this drive..." Second install of this unit as an internal 2nd drive on my laptop via eSATA Dell drive bay with the following specs: CPU/RAM: Dell Latitude E6420-I7 Intel I7-2760QM/8GB OS DRIVE/OS: PNY SSD/WINDOWS 7 PRO 64-BIT. After two days for frustration, time to return this HDD.

Other Thoughts: Rezing it to 2TB and 1TB using my licensed copy of EASEUS Partition Master did not help. Disappointed but it was a good try. I'll try another model 3TB from WD or from another OEM.

5 out of 5 eggsNot DOA and not dead in a year

Pros: Had this drive for two years now (and I've used up about 70% of the space on it). When I was going to purchase this drive there were a lot of people complaining about how it was DOA or dead within the year which made me unsure of whether I should buy the drive or not. The drive was decently priced and had 3 TB of storage space so I couldn't help myself. I still have the drive after 2 years and it hasn't given me any problems and I continue to use it often. I would highly recommend this drive if you need additional storage space on your computer.

Cons: Really didn't find anything wrong with it, still working the same as when I bought it 2 years ago.

Other Thoughts: Remember that Windows only supports drives up to 2TB so if your using this drive for your OS then you will only be able to use 2TB (Windows will force you to use only a 2TB partition). I would recommended getting this for extra space on your computer rather than your OS drive if you want an OS drive just buy a 2TB drive for cheaper. Finally one last thing, remember that the larger the sata drive the more error prone it is (A lot of people don't realize this).

5 out of 5 eggsWD what else do you need to know

Pros: WD plus Sata express and you will be very happy together.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Newegg sent me the wrong hard drive and I had to wait another week to receive the the WD drive I ordered and complete my build. Don't forget this is an OEM drive so no cable and package.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

Pros: Could not test any pro since it was dead before I could ever make it run

Cons: Was dead on arrival (DOA). Was never able to test how good it would have been.
Unfortunately I did not try hard to make it work in the first 30 days and now 60 days later the warranty is over so I can't even RMA it. What a shame.

1 out of 5 eggsWD 3TB Green - Junk

Pros: Cheap - is that a Pro, if it dies and takes all your data with it?

Cons: DAAY - Dead after a Year - I wish it had been DOA, I tested before putting archival data on it (irreplaceable photos, etc). Very light usage. Still dead.

All should know about 3 TB issues by now, but made it GPT, and Win 7 was able to use it. Don't use MBR initialization, not a boot drive, data storage only.

WD tele support was outright offensive. After long dial, pray, hold and wait, individual could barely speak English (Indian I believe), asked for Serial Number. I had torrid it to her 6 times. Once she entered, immediately shouted 'No Supported!, 'No Supported!' thought it was just a year old. I continued that I did Not yet want another dead drive, but needed help in determining if the data could be recovered. 'No Supported! After 20 futile minutes, I gave up.

Device un-recoverable, wont even format now. 100s of hrs of work lost.

I guess you get what you pay for, this is cheap junk, and performs like it. Buyer Beware.

Other Thoughts: I always used WD black drives for boot devices (before SSD), and trusted them. This was archive photography, wanted simple low cost / GB disk storage. Reading the Red & Purple reviews, the avg rating are going downhill consistently. This was a significant loss, and shattered any former confidence in WD. If you want long term direct access (disk), look elsewhere.

Device: JUNK
Support: Useless
Confidence: DEAD

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: I bought this for an NAS. USB 3.0 works good. Fairly quiet even at full load.

Cons: I had to format it before using?? Not really a con, it was expected.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because I've had THREE -3 Seagate drives fail on me. NEVER AGAIN! I only buy WD or Toshiba now.

1 out of 5 eggs2 out of 4 Dead

Pros: Ordered 4 of these drives for a NAS server, 2 are working fine, So Far...

Cons: 2 were dead out of the box, CLICK CLICK CLICK...goes the Hard Drives. RMA time... Sucks... I've always had great luck with WDs Drives...

Other Thoughts: I made 3 orders in a span of 2 weeks, this was in the first order, but it showed up last, shipping took for ever, not sure why...
