1 out of 5 eggsWD Green WD30EZRX 3TB HDD

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Price is good with lots of storage space.

Cons: Odered 4 of this drive and after 4 months of use, one of the drive already failed and can not recover it. Very disappointed.

Other Thoughts: Been using WD HDD over 7 years now, the very first WD drive I purchased is still up and running, seems like the new WD Green drive aren't as good compare to the old one they made.

5 out of 5 eggsDied with no warning

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It ran like a drive, and sat there and stored my files.

Cons: Died with 0 warning whatsoever. Completely dead. Possible causes I've read could include the controller and not the drive itself.

This is after approximately 2 years where it sat and ultimately did nothing of importance. To the point that I am not even sure what all I had on it.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 months

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: low power, lots of space

Cons: Developed bad sectors after 2 months of light use

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to store photos, movies, etc. It's installed on a machine that gets little use. After a little over 2 months of use, a bunch of directories got corrupted and I lost a bunch of files. Not good.

3 out of 5 eggsPlanned Obsolescence?

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Spacious
Cheap (relatively)
Quiet

Cons: Unreliable
Not so cool (temperature) operation

Other Thoughts: Meh. I purchased 4 new WD30EZRX drives (2 through NewEgg) a few years ago. The drives were used for Time Machine backups, rotating regularly. Now, a scant few months beyond warranty, one drive has failed altogether and the other is starting to act flaky. Unimpressed.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cost effective storage. I had other WD drives that were quite reliable. These could have been if they worked initially.

Cons: The drives I received did not work on the system that had many other operational drives or in a USB doc.

Other Thoughts: Both drive arrived DOA. One was not recognized in the system and the other was intermittent. Swapped the SATA and power cable with other drives that worked in the system but no luck. Tried it on the USB doc on another system same issue. I had to return them both.

4 out of 5 eggsDOA, but replacement seems fine

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Low energy use
Large size
Inexpensive.

Cons: First unit arrived DOA

Other Thoughts: Although the first unit arrived DOA, I'm still happy with my purchase. It seems to be the perfect choice for my new home media server.

Slower read/write speeds aren't a problem give the servers primary objective, and the power savings will be appreciated since this computer is on 24/7.

In addition to power savings, the price point for the drive was the best I could find (3.3 cents per GB as of this writing).

1 out of 5 eggsbought 2, both bad

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: none presently, if you can't use a hard drive as a hard drive.

Cons: ordered 2, one was DOA, currently dealing with returning the second one failing within a week of power on time.

Other Thoughts: don't forget to check SMART parameters after a long format :< could have returned the second with the DOA drive

1 out of 5 eggsBig mistake

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: WD

Cons: Doesn't work. Ordered two of these as WD has long been my favored hard drive source. BIOS sees the drive but when it comes to partitioning nothing shows up. Can't test what I can't install.

Other Thoughts: Motherboard is a GA-MA78GM-US2H

1 out of 5 eggsGood while it worked

This review is from: Western Digital WD Green WD30EZRX 3TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Worked great, for awhile.

Cons: Count me in with the many people who had a dead drive after a long period of use. Well, its not so much dead as it is starting to die. It takes my system 15 minutes after windows bootup just to recognize the disk. Filet ransfers and reads are at 700kb/sec read, and it takes me 10 minutes just to delete a 200mb file. The SMART data says the drive is still good, but obviously its not. I tested it in a USB enclosure as well to make sure its not the cable. This problem happened after 15 months usage, only a few months after the end of warranty. I'm not the only either in these reviews that had the drive die right after the end of warranty. I also had a 4tb WD green drive die on me a week after use on a different computer.

Other Thoughts: I've been a happy WD customer for many years and it seems like their drives are getting less and less reliable the bigger they get. It seems to be going down hill in models larger than 2tb. If you're thinking about getting a high-capacity WD Green drive to store important data, you might want to think again. Next time, im going Hitachi (HGST) or if I have to go WD, it's going to be a RED or BLACK edition drive.
