2 out of 5 eggsWouldn't buy

Pros: 2 drives replaced under warranty after a year of sporadic use as they are backups for videos and pictures. Was giving errors but appeared to recover.

Cons: First 2 failed after a year, replaced under warranty. Replaced one failed access to hard drive, put the last one in now. Was giving errors like the original 2. I won't be buying these expensive drives again - extremely unreliable.

1 out of 5 eggsWD Quality Assurance is going down

Pros: After all the drama of the past 2 months I see no pros.

Cons: * Drive failed after 3 months.
* WD support tried to cheat on warranty.
* Replacement drive was wrong model and DoA too.
* WD support now trying to blame user.

Other Thoughts: Been a WD customer for several years and so far any drive replacements have been smooth and have gone without a hitch, I purchased this particular model for a My Book Live DUO to replace 1 of the drives that went bad. It worked for a while but then problems arose and went to RMA the drive.
In order to apply warranty the HD has to be registered in WD website, after this process the WD site said that my drive was out of region and had only a few days left of warranty even though it was 4 months old.
I sent my proof of purchase and after a few days they finally updated the right warranty date and sent me a replacement which arrived DoA and was also the wrong model drive.
I sent a 2nd RMA request and received a 2nd drive, this appears to be working so far.
However...
Now I received email saying:
"Thank you for contacting Western Digital and we apologize for the inconvenience. Upon inspection of the drives returned under RMA, it was determined that the drives may have been altered and may not be eligible for replacement under WD’s limited warranty policy"

It sounds they are trying to blame me for the faulty drive.
We warned.
WD Quality control and Quality Assurance are dropping several notches in a very snort period of time. They usually have had a commendable reputation but these last few weeks have been a pain.

4 out of 5 eggs1 out of 8

Pros: I purchased 8 of these drives and after running 24/7 for 2 years and 5 months 1 of the drives finally bit the dust. They always ran cool around 75 degrees and extremely quite in a Synology Raid 6 st up.

Cons: lost 1. Too many sector errors for the raid system

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Runs nice and cool. Uses with external 4 drive enclose (Mediasonic HF2-SU3S2 3.5) for a photo / video backup. Doesn't get a ton of use, but hasn't had any issues so far. I run 2 of these and mirror them for redundancy in case one fails.

Cons: slower than my blacks, but these are for backup only.

Other Thoughts: Works for what I wanted

1 out of 5 eggsMake sure not DOA

Pros: At the time of purchase it was a good price/gb and had good reviews.

Cons: Dead on arrival! Unfortunately for me I bought 2 of these drives and only used one. I just got around to using the 2nd drive only to find out that it was dead on arrival. I missed the 2yr limited warranty by my a couple of months according to Western Digital. Be sure to run Data LifeGuard Diagnostics from WD on the drive as soon as you get it to ensure you didn't get a bum drive. Seems like a common sense thing to do, but if you skip that step it can come back to bite you.

1 out of 5 eggsNot reliable

Pros: Well, this is cheap.

Cons: Died just after 2 years of use. It's just out of warranty. So the only choice is to buy a new one.
