5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Extremely versatile. Plays a lot of formats and 90% time no chop.

Cons: Not the best at streaming. Missing some key features in the remote apps for phones.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product, Not Perfect

Pros: Great price for product. Crisp 1080p. Has connections for AVI, HDMI, and 2 USB ports for media/wireless adapters. Easy to setup. Small and blends well with other electronics. Comes with remote control.

Cons: Takes a while to boot up, odd for device with no HDD. Menus lag and remote makes it worse. Also, this sucker gets HOT-recommend placing flat, not upright (vent slots are on both sides. DON'T cover up.) Apps lag, but that can be fixed with firmware/updates.

Other Thoughts: Maybe adding a keyboard would make setup/information input easier, haven't tried-not WD's fault.

3 out of 5 eggsGood media player

Pros: plays pretty much all of my videos, has Netflix, YouTube. Small size. HDMI, composite AV and standard AV outputs.

Cons: no built-in wifi. Only certain specified USB wifi devices will work with this unit, and those devices are VERSION SPECIFIC. This was a MAJOR annoyance! Had to buy the most expensive adapter @ $30 whereas the $19 ones are not on the compatibility list. -1 Egg for the annoyance!

Other Thoughts: All-in-all this is a good media player. More features than it's competitors. I had to RMA my first unit for a bad HDMI port, which was annoying. The RMA shipping defeated the free shipping deal. Wifi via USB adapter was a chore to find a specified compatible adapter with the compatible version number. If the list of devices says "ver 2.0" don't waste your time buying an adapter "ver 3.0". The adapter that worked was twice the price of all the other USB wifi's I tried, and you're not going to find it at your local run-of-the-mill "big box" electronic stores. Forget your local WM or BB for a compatible adapter. Western Digital needs to fix this!

3 out of 5 eggsAnother one bite the dust

Pros: My old one has been working properly. I have the old one connected to my big TV to watch my .avi movies. Thought that I needed another one for the Kitchen TV and I bought this one ............. piece of trash the first day.

Cons: I have tried several formats in my old WD TV Live Plus and I haven't had any problem. This is why I decided to buy another one.

Other Thoughts: I unplugged my old WD from the AV OUT, USB and POWER and plugged in the new one and an awful sound and scrambled screen is what I see and heard. I plugged back my old WD
who use to work fine and now I cannot make it work also. I think that the new one messed up the installation.

3 out of 5 eggsMedia Player WDBABX0000NBK

Pros: Plays all media format available on the NET

Cons: - HDMI does not output true Audio quality sound. You have to rely on the Optical port. I have a pioneer receiver that can't change re-direct the optical to different channel. It becomes useless
- Does not play blu-ray format

Other Thoughts: I have a Prodigi player which I think it's the best so far but I came across some PAL format it does not play. So there's no ONE perfect box out there in the market.

5 out of 5 eggsMedia for me

Pros: Very flexible dedicated media player, like the variety I can play.

Cons: UI isn't the prettiest, but then again I bought it to watch movies.

Other Thoughts: Plugged this in and haven't had any problems. Wife has figured out how to use it so I can definitely say that this is not a complicated product.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome

Pros: I bought mine over a year ago and after the warranty expired I had an issue with the image. I called WD and even though it was out of warranty they replaced it for free!!! All I payed was postage. I don't like WD products but this thing is awesome. I take it everywhere when I travel and enjoy movies on the go.

Cons: It is slow on startup but I will survive.

4 out of 5 eggsdoes the job

Pros: Sets up easily for those moderately tech savy. Easy to use for those moderately tech challenged. Handles component video for older tvs. Decent interface. Reasonable price. Wireless with your USB network adapter. No reliability issues so far considering that it is a refurb.

Cons: No coaxial spdif output. Tedious using virtual keyboard input through remote.

Other Thoughts: That it can interface through component video for HD on an older CRT tv is the primary reason I chose this device for a friend. She wanted Netflix w/o a new tv. Alas, her home theater has only coaxial spdif input and this box has only optical output. Did have to initially choose a video option to get a proper picture and had to initially set up as wired. Might help to have someone with some tech savy help with initial setup if you don't know much about video schemes or network setup because there aren't any help files to speak of. I believe there was also a firmware update. It setup with a spare wireless USB 'n' adapter I had without any hassle. I did end up giving it a static ip address for more reliability. Handles Netflix and Pandora well. Seems to access Win 7 network shares w/o any hassle. Best deal is catching it on shell shocker.

4 out of 5 eggsAMAZING

Pros: Plays all my videos. EVEN .MKV files!! I no longer need to convert or trans-code .mkv files just for the xbox to play. The menu is more attractive than I am used to. It finds new video files immediately.

Cons: The remote is really tiny and awkward for someone with bigger hands. Also very easy to lose. In fact I lost the remote for a bit the first time before I could turn on the box.

It takes a good while to boot.

Other Thoughts: Bought this because our Xbox360 would constantly hang in media center or fail to find the new videos in the network drive.

5 out of 5 eggsA must have for every home

Pros: Plays every file format I have. I run a Windows Home Server and it streams (almost) everything excellently. Even plays my NetFlix in HD. This was my second one, and not a problem one. My wife loves the fact that it is easy to work and we can watch anything from either the living room or the bedroom.

Cons: My living room WDTV Live+ sometimes stutters on 1080P files, but I don't know if that's because I run that one through an Ethernet-over-Powerline device or because the WDTV Live+ only uses a 10/100 network adapter. I kinda wish it included a giga-bit adapter, but that's what next gen is for! Definitely not enough of a problem to lose an egg over. To solve the stutter problem, I just watch the few 1080P files I have from an ext HDD. Problem solved!
