5 out of 5 eggsGood fast drive

Pros: Compact and fast. Right capacity for my needs.

Cons: None as yet.

Other Thoughts: Use this drive to store game programs and files. The lower capacity was attractive to me. I'm not a data hound.
Access times seem rapid and smooth. Seems to work well for its intended purpose.

Occasionally makes a very brief grinding noise. Not loud but discernable. Does not seem to impede functionality.

Pleased with this product.

3 out of 5 eggsOld Tech drop price or stop making them

Pros: Fast moving of data in large chunks prior to SSD was the foundation of almost all gaming rigs

Cons: I have owned 3 of these over last 7 years and pretty much they have a lifespan of 2-3 years when used daily . my third drive is still running but replacing it with a Kingston Hyper X SSD actually in route.

Other Thoughts: Dont get me wrong I luv my raptor and has been my boot drive since the day they were released but that was then and this is now if a 300 gig raptor was priced in the $100 and under I might be convinced to store games on it but quite frankly even at that price I would be better off buying one of the slower more economical SSD drives instead ..

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: I have a WD 10,000rpm server-class drive in my main PC and it works fine. But of the last two 10K HDDs I've purchased, one was DOA and the other had debilitating injury (try bad sectors and thousands of bad blocks).

Cons: DOA

Other Thoughts: Generally I've been satisfied with higher-end WD drives. Guess I finally ran into some bad luck.

5 out of 5 eggsClassic

Pros: Fast and quiet, I purchased one of the drives just over six years ago and it has served in three different systems.
Accessing program files/games and high need documents is noticeably faster than pulling the same data off of a cheap 5400RPM or even modest 7200RPM drives.

Cons: The price point for these drives is badly out of date and you can reach for the newer, higher capacity VelociRaptors for a paltry extra sum.
These are not SSDs and are not going to perform as quickly. Between a nice SATA³ SSD and a VelociRaptor there is a noticeable performance difference in favor of solid state storage.

Other Thoughts: I'm still very happy with this drive even though it's pretty old. I've watched seagates and WD blue/red drives come and go while this one has kept on keeping on.
My opinion of an ideal setup would include a nice SSD for your boot OS and critical programs followed by a VelociRaptor for your games and other files that change more frequently.
I wrote this review because I felt the only other one here was not comprehensive enough to sell the product. Like I said in Cons though, the price point needs updating because the larger WD 10k RPM drives aren't a whole lot more expensive. Unless you prefer a smaller drive (tbh I don't see a lot of configurations preferring less storage) you can pass this up in favor of the higher capacity, newer models.
