1 out of 5 eggsWorst piece of junk HDD money can buy

Pros: Last long enough to fool you in to using it.

Cons: Bought 2 of these in 2012, one died within the year, the other died in early 2015. Even when they worked they were slow as molasses. They always had to refresh the view when you browsed it in windows explorer, which was truly annoying. Both of these drives are out of warrantee and will be recycled, which was all they were good for when they were new.

Other Thoughts: If you want throw away hard drives that drop like flies, then buy WD. Other wise buy any brand but them. I don't know what happened to WD in recent years. Seems like when the switch over to SATA several years ago, their drives have been bad ever since. I still have an 11 year old IDE 120 GB WD drive that still works. I guess WD doesn't care anymore about quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGood access speeds for media

Pros: Great loading speed, no issue streaming media to Apple TV stored from this drive.

Cons: Slower speeds accessing from GUI. Occassionally when accessing from windows, GUI will pause.

Other Thoughts: For the price, it is a great drive for mass storage.

1 out of 5 eggs2 out of 4 DOA

Pros: the four drives arrived packed in a partial piece of discarded styrofoam with bubble pack around the drives on three sides.
The fourth side was bare drives in direct contact with the corrugated shipper box. How even two of them arrived in working condition blows my mind. Newegg, really, I mean REALLY! This complaint of poorly packaged drives has been raised for YEARS on this site and STILL you have not fixed it ? Shame on you!

Cons: Yep - all of the above

1 out of 5 eggsWarranty

Pros: 2TB

Cons: 90 Day Warranty parts & Labor -:(

IMHO although it may last years the chance you will need to spend this amount to replace the drive in 91+ days makes me SCEPTIAL.

3 out of 5 eggsTwo steps forward, on step back

Pros: It's a nice enough drive. Large, reasonably fast, quiet, not too expensive.

Cons: The "EARS" in the part number signifies it has a "hybrid" approach to the new 4k sector standard. While internally it utilizes 4k sectors, it presents itself to the OS as utilizing 512b sectors. This can cause substantial performance degradation if you try to use it in a RAID with older drives, or with an OS that actually believes what the drive tells it (FreeBSD, Linux, etc).

Other Thoughts: It's fine as a single drive in Windows, but you'll likely have to re-create any RAID volumes so you can force 4k sectors.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap and quiet. Overall good drive, i should say the second time around.

Cons: drive would not format, on any platform, 32 or 64 bit. Western Digital took care of me though. Sent a new drive that finally worked. From what i read, this was a common problem.

Other Thoughts: happy for now.
