Other Thoughts: I have always had good experiences with western digital. this hardrive was exactly what i was looking for, a low energy drive that was cheap and offered lots of storage. I got exactly what i wanted.

Pros: Cheap and the usual quick shipping from Newegg. Had to return one of the pair I ordered initially -- DOA. No problems returning it, of course.

Cons: This was a pair of 1TB's installed in RAID and striped. Workstation was operating 24/7/365 (Linux Workstation running BOINC for "Asteroids at Home calculation application"). You know that sound when you hear it ... Screeeeeeech ... sort of like one of my former mother's-in-law's commentary to me. Anyway. I figure for what $80.00 a 1TB ought to last a bit more than a year ... but I am writing this to give you a heads up. Caveat Emptor and Molon Labe or whatever.

Other Thoughts: I buy everything from Newegg .. can't beat the prices or the service.

Other Thoughts: Was in a strange box, like it was a return sent back out.

Would not take a partition at first, then was super slow to format. Also lost it format after reboot.

I SENT BACK A 1TB DRIVE AND THEY RETURNED A 2TB DRIVE TO ME.
I'm not sure that is standard practice, but it sure was nice! Thanks WD for standing by your products! With customer service like this, no wonder you are the best!

Pros: Works at a fair rate

Cons: Started clicking after 5 days with it, its also the loudest component in my computer, which is unfortunate. Because i honestly thought my 4 200mm Fans were louder. It also blue screened on me once, of course i freaked out and backed everything on my computer up on a Seagate Backup drive. It better not blue screen again or ill have no choice but to return it to newegg.

Other Thoughts: This drive is great for first time computing but when it comes to performance the Drive isnt good. Save your money up and get a WD Black or a Seagate Baracuda.

Pros: its a hard drive, ran with a sdd for ssd cache and this driveflies now, its was avg speed for 7200 rpm hdd, but wow pair it with a 64gb sdd for cache and watch the time fly

Cons: wasnt free lol

Pros: This is certainly a 5400 RPM drive. I really like having the 64 mb cache but the platters spin way too slowly for iTunes playback even with standard definition. Lots of stuttering. I also tested this with Star Wars: The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2 and way too slow to load up and during level switching.

I suggest going at least 7200 RPM. This drive however is wonderful for storage of files and backup so I guess that this is best relegated for that purpose.

Cons: Too slow at 5400 RPM for video playback or gaming.

Other Thoughts: Unlike Seagate, I never had a Western Digital go out on me. This is very reliable drive at least.

Pros: I have had good luck with a few of these. I bought this one to fix a Western Digital "My Book" external hard drive that was dropped by the owner. This drive is fast and quiet.

Cons: None so far

Pros: It wasn't DOA, they're quiet, and work well. What more can you want from a simple harddrive? Oh yeah, cost. You can't beat the price either!
