1 out of 5 eggsMAXTOR 320 SATA not good

Pros: None.

Cons: This product is not listed by MAXTOR in their down loads area. Not supported. Got extremely hot, way too hot. Formatted and partitioned ok, got errors trying to put data on it. Would not accept data. Sent back.

Other Thoughts: Have used MAXTOR always for years. Now have second opinion of their product. All things in life changes, and this company did.

4 out of 5 eggsThey’ve Changed!

Pros: I’ve been down on Maxtor drives for 8 years. I haven’t bought one since I had a 2GB model crash on me in 1996. I glad I tried this one though, because it’s noticeably faster than my 250, and 500GB WD drives. Now if it will only hold up for a while my opinion of Maxtor will be entirely changed.

Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Large Amount of Space
Fast Seek Time
Over all wonderful quality

Cons: Only thing I think of is that I had to by cables Separately, which was expected as it is OEM

Other Thoughts: This is a good buy, a great price, for a great amount of space, I bought two of these for my first SATA drives.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great value, works good, no problems

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I use it at home and I do not see difference between ATA and SATA, so I would suggest that you buy good ata drive with more GB's and save some $$$$

5 out of 5 eggsMaxtor RMA

Pros: Ok. For the people with Nforce4 chipsets, you will need to get an RMA, and they will send you an updated hard drive with the newest firmware that works with the Nforce 4 chipset. It is really cool too because they have an Advance RMA program where you get the new hard drive within 2 days. The wait is great because in the end, you will get a great drive.

Cons: None, after getting the new drive, it has been great, and as fast as a 74gb Raptor.

3 out of 5 eggsCall Maxtor for NForce Firmware update

Pros: Awesome hdd's to raid. They just pwn ^_^

Cons: For NForce chipsets you NEED the firmware update. Obtainable by calling maxtor. goto website for number.

Other Thoughts: I wasted 14 hours of my life attempting to raid these bad-boys.

2 out of 5 eggsFollow up on "Not compatible with nForce4"

Pros: I talked with tech support about getting that firmware and I tried it on several computers to no avail. And now I am being told that Maxtor doesn't have a firmware update for the drives with the code VA101610, and that is the code that my drive has. Let me speak clearly: they cannot update this drive of theirs at all to make it compatible with the nForce4 SATA controller. They cannot do it. I just got screwed according to Murphy's Law.

Cons: Manufacturing blunder and lack of compatibility with a very common, popular chipset. They have removed that item in the Knowledge Base (Answer ID 2685) because they are now testing their drives in manufacturing to make them compatible. Why did this take so long? And what is so hard about making a firmware update for my drive? Now I have to do a special request RMA. Hopefully Newegg can get me an HDD with a later firmware.

Other Thoughts: If you are one of the lucky ones with a good firmware, I expect to see those stars and praise. But I'm done with Maxtor as an nForce4 user, even if they are now testing their drives at manufacturing. Newegg is still awesome. You should wait until that "new batch of drives" gets here, written about below, before you nForce4 people buy this. The stars are for Newegg. Maxtor gets negative two.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Complaints

Pros: Runs fast. No Installation issues. Not using with NF4 chipset so no firmware issues.

Cons: None really

Other Thoughts: Just thought I should stick up for this drive. I'm not a big fan of Maxtor, but so far this drive is great.

2 out of 5 eggsSent mine back

Pros: none: I never got the harddrives working (NF4)

Probably a good drive on a different mobo chipset.

Cons: Bought 2 of these but there was only 3 reviews here about it, one review only labeled "defective" and the other 2 reviews were ok. So I went ahead and bought them. They dont work in NF4 mobos apparently and I didnt have time to find fixes for it. I bought 2 seagate sata II drives instead and sent these back. I never had so much trouble with a harddrive. One thing I didnt try was put them on the Silicon Image sata raid ports and see if they worked. I bet they would.

4 out of 5 eggsLove/Hate

Pros: Very fast and works well after Maxtor firmware update.(Needed for nForce4/3 chipsets).

Cons: Had to call Maxtor for firmware update. The process was simple enough, though. The drive is working now.

Other Thoughts: I am still a little nervous though, firmware updates don't always work out well. I will give it a few weeks to see if it all works out.
