1 out of 5 eggsProduct died after 14 months

Pros: I had a 500gb OneTouch which was great while it worked. Only lasted 14 months and Seagate said "Sorry, out of warranty!"

Cons: Only lasted 14 months and Seagate said "Sorry, out of warranty!"

2 out of 5 eggsUpdate for Vista doesn't work

Pros: It's a hard-drive. It hooks up to USB2. It's big.

Cons: Until the software works -- this is just another big hard-drive. Certainly NOT worth the extra amount paid if the One Touch feature is crippled or broken.

Other Thoughts: The software is the only differentiator for this type of product. I wish I had just gotten a regular drive and used Windows backup software since that seems to work just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsNice product worth the price

Pros: Nice rubber finish, fast drive, power switch on the case. Software is OK, even better after updating it from web site (downloaded it for 2k/xp even if says "Vista"). For the value it is well worth its price !

Cons: Backup software does not support open file and just skip them, but not sure 100%...

Other Thoughts: Lightening fast shipping as usual !!

4 out of 5 eggsIt works, but the software sucks

Pros: Reasonable price, no connectivity problems

Cons: Software included sucks - it doesn't let you simply select an entire drive at a time, and you have to manually select each directory to backup. Also, it only allows you to backup/sync directories from one drive at a time, and then you have to reopen the program and select another drive...the flashing light on the front is useless, and I had to turn the drive sideways and put something over the light to cover it up.

Other Thoughts: Using Norton 360 on my second computer as the backup program. Seems to work a lot better than what Maxtor supplied. Also, you could always drag and drop folders onto it just like a normal drive and not even bother using Maxtor's software.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works. 465GB of usable space. Just plug it in and go. The Maxtor OneTouch software is not necessary for operation. Sturdy construction. Very portable.

Cons: USB 2.0 transfer speed is slow.
This version only supports USB 2.0.

Other Thoughts: It is a great backup device and all-around great addition to any system needing extra storage space.

4 out of 5 eggsVery happy until controller died

Pros: This is a nice drive, well constructed and solid. It is quiet, and works well with my Mac AirPort Extreme as a NAS drive. When it isn't in use for a while, the drive spins down.

Cons: After six months of NAS use (always on, perhaps spinning, perhaps not) the controller board died. The AC adaptor was still putting out 12v, so I'm sure the problem was on the internal board. I extracted the hard disk from the enclosure. It powered up just fine in another enclosure and I was able to recover the data with no problem.

Opening up the enclosure was quite difficult. There were many plastic tabs that really wanted to be snapped off (I only damaged one) and there was tape on the inside. Some of the tape covered up internal screws and some of it (I assume) provided thermal contact to help dissipate drive heat.

Other Thoughts: I'd give the drive five stars except for the controller board failure. I plan to return it to Maxtor/Seagate and hopefully they will replace it. It still is under warranty, but I did open it up

1 out of 5 eggsMaxtor one Touch III

Pros: quiet, no slip grip.

Cons: Software written for this product is very poor. If one of your back-ups fails it just keeps reminding you on the task bar that you're last back up failed. Will not back up no matter how many times you tell it to.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: Quiet, solid construction (rubberized). Simple installation.

Cons: Bulkier than the OneTouch II, otherwise no 'cons'

Other Thoughts: This is my second OneTouch. The previous one still works fine after > 1yr. I have had this one for ±45 days. This time I did not install the software. Just 'plugged and play'. WinXP recognized it as a USB storage device and I was in business in less than a minute.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Maxtor Anymore...

Pros: Used to be good and durable...

Cons: They used to be a reliable long lasting hard drive. Now I've had 5 failures and have horrible support. Need to find a new provider.

Other Thoughts: In fixing a power supply failure I took out the HD (2) and inside a Seagate HD was present. For shame!
