2 out of 5 eggsDONT BUY THIS!!

Pros: Easy setup, fast enough.

Cons: This drive showed as "unformatted" 3 times while I had it. Each time I had to use GetDataBack to retrieve the data.

Other Thoughts: The actual hard disk does not seem to be the problem, I believe it's the controller. I ended up taking the hd out of the enclosure and using it as an internal drive. No problems since. Not a reliable product for keeping important data.

1 out of 5 eggspiece of junk

Pros: cheap

Cons: does not work. I have tried 3 Windows XP computers which can see other external USB hard drives, and none of them can detect this Maxtor drive. Then I googled internet and found out it is not just my bad luck. Stay away with this.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: -Quiet
-Clean design
-Relatively durable
-Good Storage-to-Price ratio

Cons: -A little big
-No power button (turned on unless unplugged)
-No backup software included

Other Thoughts: This is a good value for its price. If you can't spend more for a drive with more storage (giving you a better storage to price ratio), this still isn't a bad way to go.

The small business owners I bought this for have been using it for nightly backups for almost a year now, and have yet to encounter a single problem. It even gets a little more physical use with them, as they chose to unplug it and move it to less important computers weekly for their backups too. Still works as well as it did the day we unboxed it.

They are (and I am) very happy with the purchase.

2 out of 5 eggstotal bummer

Pros: It's very fast when transferring files onto it.

Cons: It lost all of my files without warning and after working fine for over a year.

Other Thoughts: I had this for over a year and just recently it decided that it was unformatted. Was working fine for months, didn't drop it, it wasn't making funny sounds, nothing. Not a reliable backup. Especially since it would cost at least $1400 for Seagate/Maxtor to POSSIBLY get your data back for you (almost 20 times what it's worth).

2 out of 5 eggsCheap, Cheap, Cheap

Pros: It probably works, but it's so cheaply made that I can't use it.

Cons: Vertical stand is a cheap piece of plastic that would undoubtedly scratch me wooden desk. No power switch, so if you don't want to use it continuously you have to uplug it. HD cannot be removed from case without a lot of difficulty. Removing from case also voids warranty.

Other Thoughts: If you want an external HD for cloning your main HD so you can replace a bad HD with your clone, this one will not be of any use. If you like to use your external HD only for specific things (like your DVD collection) and shut it down when not in use, it's not very useful. Going under my desk to unplug anything is too much hassle for me. Once you install, you shouldn't have to bother.

2 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: small, didn't get hot, somewhat nice.

Cons: Work well for about 3 weeks. I down loaded all kinds of pic's of the fam, games, etc. deployed to Iraq and i hasn't worked since. It's never been dropped, exposed to dirt, etc. I babbied it and now nothing, Maxtor or seagate, will not even e-mail me back. Do not buy this product. Now I'm Stuck here trying t buy a new external.

Other Thoughts: Be safe, Buy another brand...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product.

Pros: not loud at all, wrote about 40 gigs in 5 to 7 min, doesnt get hot at all.

Cons: usb cable a little short but not to bad

Other Thoughts: I just want to say I am extremely supprized that at the quality of this product, I have a 4 hd raid and I wanted another hd to keep stuff on, it doesnt fall to far behind the raid ither. I will definitely buy from maxtor agian for anymore of my hd needs!
