5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: After a year of using this drive every day, I can not say enough good things about it. It does exactly what it is supposed to do without any whining or groaning. Very cool to the touch. The extra USB port is great for connecting to a burner if you need to. I paid more for mine so this price makes this an even better deal.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: It's fast and silent and runs cool!

Cons: It's annoying that the drive shuts off on it's own if nothing is transferring to the drive, however when it's time to you have to wait until it spins up.

Other Thoughts: Not a bad price for what you get.

4 out of 5 eggsA good external hard drive

Pros: I actually have the 250GB, but I don't see that on the site, so I'm reviewing the 160GB with the provision that my drive has 90 more GB. That said, the drive is nice, looks terrific, it worked right away without any installation needed. I haven't used the backup software because I use it to hold backups of multiple computer images, so I can't comment on that. It runs quiet, almost too quiet. I don't use the backup buttons either, can't comment.

Cons: When you press the power button, the drive turns on. So far, so good. When you press the now-illuminated button again, it blinks a few times, which is sort of fun to look at. If you want to turn the drive off, you must hold down the power button for four seconds. Just a small peeve.

Other Thoughts: A good purchase, I'd buy another and probably will. I give it a four instead of a five simply because some advertised features don't work. Functionally, it's solid as anything where it matters, which is data storage.

1 out of 5 eggsReally poor unit

Pros: Still physically intact.

Cons: Unlike the lucky kid who still has his data, mine turned into a hard electronic vegetable not too long after my warranty expired. I'm lucky to have saved the important things onto my computer.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor unit

Pros: Hasn't lost my data yet.

Cons: *Very slow* access rates. Lost ability to auto detect when PC boots up. Have to unplug usb cbl and replug into to detect. Very loose pwr cable to unit. Noisy operation.

Other Thoughts: This line is not worth what I paid for it. I bought a SimpleTech HD and the access times is 4 times as fast as the WD. Never again will I buy a WD.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT!!!

Pros: I've had this unit for the better part of a year with no problems. Also have the Netcenter version. I've always been happy with WD and these were the first external drives I've had, all others were internal. Can't understand the poor reviews. The backup software is great, it can copy your hard drive but it can do incremental backups as well, the person who was losing stuff needs to look at their settings.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Easy to install. Easy to use. Reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsWorthwhile purchase

Pros: I am very pleased with the unit. I tried plugging it in, drivers were found and it copied data just fine but it would not power down. I loaded the softwaree but not the back up software and it now works perfet. I did not find the plug to be loose as so many did before me.

Cons: none, at least not yet.

Other Thoughts: Files copied quickly. I have plugged in both the USB and firewire as recommended and it seems to work well. The price was right and the unit was delivered approx 6 days later

4 out of 5 eggsTakes a lickin'

Pros: Good capacity, quick when using both the USB and Firewire ports. Dropped from about 4 ft. while spinning around (read maximium velocity)drive bounced off concrete 5 feet away. Slight crack on case but never missed a beat ! WOW !

Cons: Eject or reconnect can be problematic. Found that if you simply close all files and power off, works good. The "EJECT" and power down method doesn't work... well at least on 2 out of 3 pcs.

Other Thoughts: Been happy with the drive, ordered 2 extra power supplies and cables to allow easy plug into all 3 pcs... Would buy again but wish they would improve the power on/off.
