Features

Features
Cool - Cool operation results in the highest reliability, even in intensely hot environments such as digital video recorders. That's why these, the coolest on the market, are the drives of choice for the world's leading consumer electronics and PC manufacturers.
Quiet - The technology that Tom's Hardware Guide called "very fast and nearly silent" is used throughout this family of drives. Our WhisperDrive technology minimizes noise to levels near the threshold of human hearing. To cut seek noise, SoftSeek technology streamlines read/write seeking algorithms, resulting in more efficient operation

5 out of 5 eggsWD wins again

Pros: Western Digital is all I buy within the last few years, and they've scored another success after I've used this drive as a workhorse for over a year. Not a faulty bit to be had, no problems, no burn out, and everything has gone smooth as can be. It's been so good to me that I'm ordering another one after this review, just so I can have a third on-hand for big files that are readily accessbile.

Cons: None to date.

Other Thoughts: Western Digital has really been keeping their quality up over the last few years, despite the few random occurances of problems. Even on a bad drive, I've had great experience getting things taken care of quickly and easily through WD. I can't say I'd ever switch unless I hit a wall in the future...

2 out of 5 eggsWD3200 Caviar SATA

Pros: Low Price for usable GB.

Cons: After just 6 months, the drive died and failed even to spin up. Other SATA drive we've used at work seem to have an abnornally high failure rate as well.

Other Thoughts: While I'm returning the failed drive for a replacement, I'll replace this drive with a Seagate with the 5-year warranty. It's used as an external SATA drive for our HD-DVR.

3 out of 5 eggsBetter than nothing...

Pros: When I bought these drives a year ago, they were the cheapest 320G drives with a decent warrenty. I bought 5 of them, so even $xx cheaper meant I could get 1 more, or in this case 20G more than the compitition.

Cons: 2 out of 5 of these drives have failed in 1 year. The first after less than 6 months, the second about 6 months later

Other Thoughts: Hard drives are a gamble, no matter what. When it counts, I go for Seagate or another company with 5 year warrenty.

5 out of 5 eggs9 Drives and Counting

Pros: GREAT Price, almost 300GB of usable storage. Its 298GBs. You can't beat the price. I use them to put my DVDs on. Don't need SATAII for this. Highly recommended

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWD hatters

Pros: I have had one of these for about a year, its plenty fast and holds plenty of files. It works great, stays cool, everything that you look for in a drive, i havent tried raid yet, and for now i dont need to.

Cons: That newegg has a 5 star rating system because this deserves 6.....

Other Thoughts: I dont know what these people are hating on western digital drives, I have been using western digital for years and have never had a problem.

3 out of 5 eggsDead in 4 months

Pros: Drive is quiet and fast.

Cons: Worked perfectly for 3 months. Started getting I/O errors & drive failed 2 weeks later.

Other Thoughts: S.M.A.R.T. detected possible failure & I was able to save data. RMA from WD was quick and easy.

3 out of 5 eggsone good, one bad

Pros: These drives are pretty quiet

Cons: I bought two drives to set up in a RAID 1 array. I'm really glad I didn't just buy one, because one of them failed and has several bad sectors on it. Perhaps its just random chance, and any brand you buy will have a certain number of bad units shipped, but maybe they should do more quality control.
