5 out of 5 eggswell if WD would hold out

Pros: It appears that your power supply unit is failing if it wont hold an operating system. Please get a new power supply to see if its the cause. I know some hard drives act funny when one is slave and other is master. for some reason. I have a 200 gb version of the competitor. It failed on me about 4 days ago. I guess its a good idea to make an external hard drive to archive data. Be sure to have e-sata compatibility.

Cons: I don;t see any, hmmmmm

Other Thoughts: you do the research most people blame hard drives and motherboars for not holding an operating system whereas the power supply is the mostly the blame. let me reassure you that before hard drives fail, check your power supply out. cause they tend to fail quickly and take more electric abuse than other counterparts.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good Drive - Highly Recommended

Pros: 300gb, SATA-150, 16mb cache and good price. Quiet, fast and dependable. Price is right, quality is excellent.

Cons: Can't think of a thing...

Other Thoughts: I've been using an identical drive for about a year, and added 2 more to the system (900gb now)so that I could install both 32 & 64-bit Vista on the extra drives. After done with Vista eval, they will be used for video storage. These are OEM's and don't come with screws or sata cables, so you might need to order them at the same time, to save shipping costs. Ah, yes... I forgot cables, and had to order seperate...

3 out of 5 eggsreasonably product, but I would not buy again

Pros: Its cheap, fast and 16mb cache. Thats pretty much what I was looking for. With sata 150, its very fast for todays computers(todays computers are not yet able to take advantage of sata 3gb)

Cons: First one starting giving me all kinds of registry errors and finally wouldnt load windows anymore. After a couple of new installs, I gave up on it. Recieved my new one and its pretty loud. There is alot of drive seek noise, though fairly quiet during idle.

Other Thoughts: I would probably not recommend this hard drive to anyone. Its ok, but there are other better options in the same price range. Plus, it seems im not the only one that has had these fail on me. If you like losing data and going through that kind of hasle, this drive is for you!

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Paired 2 for SATA RAID 0. Love the 16MB cache. No hiccups in Windows now.

Cons: Windows 2000 Pro still has problems shutting down after installing some basic and essential software. Still do hate Windows...

4 out of 5 eggsFast drive, noisy seek though

Pros: Fast drive. Spins quietly but seek is quite noisy (at least compared to my samsung spinpoint drive). However, you can quiet the drive since it uses AAM. Search the web for Hitachi's feature tool. Set the drive to "quiet" mode and it's quiet as can be.

Cons: Seek noise. That's about it.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet fast drive

Pros: This is the 10th Maxtor I have owned. I have had 1 defective Maxtor drive in 10 years that has a bad sector that this is replacing. TIP: Thanks to Windows XP Pro Automated System Recovery in it's native Backup application, I was able to exclude the file with the bad sector and recover everything except that one file on this new drive and everything has been restored. Any ghost image software I tried would hang trying to read that bad sector, making any back up fail.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I hope Seagate keeps manufacturing Maxtor, because I have always found these drives to be terrific.

5 out of 5 eggsMaxtor rocks!!!

Pros: Quiet, fast, reliable.

Cons: NONE.

Other Thoughts: Maxtor drives never let me down.
I bought two of these drives and mirror them with a highpoint raid controller.
These drives are replacing three 120 gig maxtor drives on a raid array that are 4 years old and still work prefect. I highly recomend these maxtor drives if you want rock solid quality drives.
