Run like the wind from this...

Pros: It didn't spring to life and physically attack the server.

Cons: This product is horrible. The interface sucks. There is no option to power up automatically after a power outage. It continues to show disk errors even after calls to maxtor and getting a green light from it's internal diagnostics. Just buy lottery tickets with your money. You'd have better odds of protecting your data.

Excellent Buy

Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year

Pros: I have to say I disagree with the other responses on here. Windows XP average throughput with 240GB nightly backup using Cat6 = 13.6 MB/s (108 mbps) and using Windows Vista or Windows 7 64bit = 23 MB/s (184 mbps) which is faster than any desktop user NAS on the market I have encountered. Wireless throughput on all operating systems using Wireless N through Cisco N+ router is no higher than 13 MB/s.

Cons: Management Console is Poorly Coded. Drive does get hot.

Other Thoughts: For me personally, there has nothing that has performed faster on my home network up until this point. I am highly satisfied with the product.

Pros: This field intentionally left blank.

Cons: Slow everything.

Management console is terribly slow.

Moving data from an attached USB drive to the internal drive is slow...I have this old 40 Meg WesternDigital from 1990 - it's just a bit faster than the Maxtor.

Other Thoughts: For something that comes with a gigabit network connection, you'd expect it to actually work fairly quickly.

I've reached speeds up to 6 megabits. Wow.

The only fast thing about this was the retail transaction from my bank account at a local box store.

Seriously - save your money and buy something more useful.

Just buy a 1TB external drive and share it on the network.
