5 out of 5 eggsFAST and Silent

Pros: Speed and Quiet, good value.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Good value and past experience steered my choice. I have a 9 year old Hitachi still working perfectly in my T21 IBM thinkpad. Hope this lasts half that.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Drive

Pros: Quiet
Reasonably fast
Stays cool
Runs smoothly
Reliable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: IBM has been using Hitachi drives in ThinkPad notebooks for many years because of the good performance and reliability. I have had several ThinkPads over time and never had a problem with the Travelstar drives. This drive is no exception.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Works way better than the 5400 RPM drive I had in my laptop before. Popped it in installed Windows 7 and it runs great.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive, ALWAYS go with 7200 for your laptop

Pros: Fast drive, low heat output, negligible battery effect

Cons: SATA 1.5Gb/s only...but is that REALLY a con when no laptop drive is going to be pushing the barrier of the SATA speed limit?

Other Thoughts: No matter what laptop you use, do yourself a favor and move up to a 7200rpm disk. You certainly won't regret it. Especially when you can get it on an excellent Newegg sale!

5 out of 5 eggsdell d620

Pros: fourty plus free ship for a 100 g 7200 sata ... sweat nice size laptop hd. its a sata 1.5 but i cant tell and speed dif from a 3.0 tried both great upgrade from 40 gig hitachi oem .. cool and quiet.. wd hum in 72,s and sg. , have run hot, newer ones. five hitachies w/no prob, got to add to my vendor list. sean old ones and they were going strong......

Cons: new egg use packing peanuts on hard drives. no more bubble wraped hd in the bottom of the box with paper on top. three times now they have beaten threw the bubble wrap and the drive is toast. one wd 500 black did survive and only hope the life will be ok. sg cant take it. packing nuts 100% fine, no doa,s

Other Thoughts: new egg is the best for service and price. and not tax and a lot of free shipping, whats not to like. love the rievews. i want the best for my customers...

4 out of 5 eggsSeems decent

Pros: Good price on a 7200 RPM slim 2.5" drive. Hopefully performance is better than the 5400 rpm drives, but haven't been able to do a good comparision yet. Good brand reputation.

Packaging was pretty good - rolled up in bubble wrap and placed inside a small box with some filler packaging.

Cons: Unclear what warranty coverage exists for this - newegg didn't advertise and I haven't searched hitachi's site.

Life span of hard drives is a real cr#p shoot.

Other Thoughts: Makes for an inexpensive light weight backup device. Using a cheap eSata - USB enclosure for now. That works with 2 USB ports, but wouldn't on one. The eSata provides no power, so you end up using another cord for power, but hopefully it makes a fast little backup device use eSata off of desktops and decent USB speeds for laptops.
