Reliable Consumer Level Drive

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I have been using this range of Hitachi drives since they were released (in '07 or '08). And Travelstar 7K200 for my MacBook Pro, no failures.
They run cool and quiet enough in the right case, now in Icy Docks MB559UEB-1S-B using FW800.
These drives have worked in a wide variety of applications from hosting VM servers to Professional Audio and limited Video editing.
I have used them primarily for back up and for multi-track audio editing/recording with Pro Tools, Logic and Live. While they do not shake my confidence in my overpriced, hot running but bulletproof Glyph HDDs, I would not hesitate to buy again. No issue editing small video projects in FC Express.
If looking for speed and reliability ie Final Cut Pro/Studio, I would most likely use the 7K1000 1TB version and RAID 0 (did I just say RAID 0 is reliable?). For those who don't know read up on RAID before deciding to go with one version or another, RAID 0 is fast but prone to fail due to its design vs other RAID ve
Cons: They are a bit pricey for a .5TB HDD, but I think everything is too expensive. I plan on picking up 4 more for general storage on my RAID 5 NAS, when they get cheaper, hear that NewEgg? I am talking to you!
Other Thoughts: For dead on arrival HDDs of any make out of the box... do yourself a favor, DO NOT use ANY ground level service for shipping, especially at the holidays. I worked for a certain brown uniformed company and their competitor. All I can say is pack the item as if its survival depended on it!
Electronics are usually shipped as they come from the manufacturer, sometimes in an additional box with some styrofoam peanuts on top.
Paying for air service should increase your odds of having a reliable HDD and many other sensitive products.
Remember this is a "consumer" level product, not enterprise or a spec built product, just a good general purpose drive that may surprise you with its speed and reliability.
