Great Hard Drive
- Pros: I have 5 laptops in the house and all hard drives have failed at one time or another -- Fujitsus, Seagates, WDs, etc... I have replaced them all with Hitatchi Travelstars -- the drives are silent, don't run hot. These get abused and don't complain! Teenagers taking their laptops to school, my laptop on airplanes, dropped laptops, etc....
Don't know why you would buy anything else.

- Pros: Inexpensive with rebate, quiet, WAY faster than a 5400 rpm
- Cons: Failed after 7 months of use
- Other Thoughts: Quieter than the 80 gb Toshiba it replaced in my MacBook, and the WD I replaced this one with. Always seemed to run on the warm side. This was the first hd that has ever failed on me. Maybe I just got a lemon? Weekly backups saved my bacon. Warranty is covering the replacement, but could take up to 6 weeks to happen. Replaced it with a 320 gb WD in the meantime.
I will give the replacement a try because the performance was very good while it lasted. And I will probably go to 3 day backups just in case.
Overall this drive earns a 5 for performance, and a 1 for reliability, hence the 3 overall rating.
Works great
- Pros: It works with the Mac Mini - I bought this hard drive for my Mac Mini to replace the stock 5400rpm drive.
Its speed is noticeably faster than a 5400rpm drive. The difference is not huge, but it's nice to have a fast hard drive.
It's quiet and doesn't seem to be significantly warmer than the 5400rpm drive it replaced.
I seem to remember Hitachi having a good reputation for hard drives.. Hopefully that's still true with this drive.
