Are these really Hitachi?

At least two of the six I purchased are DOA. There may be more. I'm running Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test on each ...

Very Quiet, Pretty fast and runs cooler than my WD or Seagate drives.

Pros: I have 2 of these drives, owned them since may 2009. They have been stable, fast and reliable.

Cons: Absolutely NONE!!!

Other Thoughts: Just some great drives.

1 out of 5 eggsLast 3 years

Pros: Last 3 years, I'm lucky, that could be shorter!

Cons: As a second drive for stocking (with 3 others from other brand) this one start little clicking (cloc) each time it comes out from idle. The PCB has bad connection when simply touching the cable so the HD restart and freeze the system for couple of seconds. I had to take it out from PC and connect it as an external to backup. I expect a life longer than 3 years for a HD not used as a disk system. Sorry, no more Hitachi for me, ever on discount. This one will go direct to the bin. This HD was from an external drive (LaCie Design by F.A. Porsche) bought in 2008.

Other Thoughts: More noisy as an external drive than Seagate, WD or Samsung

1 out of 5 eggsbad

Pros: price

Cons: Bad drive. Only used for a total of 6419 hours (267 days), and i have SMART error of reallocated sectors count. The hard drive started making a very loud clicking noise.

Other Thoughts: Hitachi is so bad, but I am going to get RMA...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, dependable hard drive

Pros: 1TB of space..isn't that enough? I'm using two of these for a HTPC server/DVR system. They've been extremely reliable for almost three years of constant recording/playing/editing/deleting.

Cons: Somewhat loud, but not a deal breaker by any means.

1 out of 5 eggsThese are complete and total garbage

Pros: None

Cons: Everything. I bought three of these drives when they were $50 a piece. Don't buy them. Within in 6 months time, they all started to make a clicking noise (typically denotes a mechanical failure in progress). My pc would freeze and/or reboot. All three drives did this one right after the other. I had the O/S installed on one, and when that one failed, I recovered the O/S onto the second drive, and the next day the second drive started to go bad. I am now on the third drive and it is clicking too. I will not waste time in RMA for the same thing will just happen to those ones.

Other Thoughts: From now on, I will only buy Segate and Western Digital drives.

5 out of 5 eggsA Wonderful Hard Drive

Pros: It has been running beautifully since June 2009. So far the power on time is reported at 14,119 hours and counting. Used a external storage drive upright on a BlacX dock. It was a great drive to get for its price on sale at the time.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: When I first got it I thought there would be no way I'd fill it all up. Fast forward 21 months later and now I'm looking for a bigger drive to supplement it. Owned a Hitachi 250GB 3.5 PATA and 60GB 2.5 PATA and neither of them had given me any problems. Hitachi hasn't let me down.

5 out of 5 eggsgood drive

Pros: The drive is very roomy. As of 2/6/11 it still works

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: The drive gets a bit warm. But it just sits om my desk. So there are no real problems

2 out of 5 eggsHITACHI 0A38016 1TB

Pros: Used this as the system drive for Vista which has a tendency to do alot of disk churning. Worked well for 1.72 years.

Cons: Drive has developed the typical clicy-clack which is extremely annoying. I had no choice but to pull it out of service.

Other Thoughts: Now I see why NewEgg no longer stocks this drive.

2 out of 5 eggsThis model sure isn't being made in Japan

Pros: There USED to be plenty good to tell about.

Cons: What happened to Hitachi? - they are a prime manufacturer of electronics parts - (or maybe they were???) - all their stuff was made with their own components, which WERE really high quality. - Now, we're seeing a LOT of failures in practically no time at all. (ESPECIALLY on this model)
Warranty service issues online RMA's then recieve parts and sit on them. - they've got one now that they recieved 10/01 - no word since, no action, nada.

Other Thoughts: I'm glad I don't have stock in this company.

Newegg - doesn't this company make any other models of 1 Tb drives?
